Can I undo a refresh on windows 8, I have no restore points but would like to go back 24hours?

I've recently got a new computer with Windows 8, I was having trouble with it and decided to refresh to clean up all the bits and pieces I'd added to start again.  The windows office package  was installed recently by partner before he went away as he bought two licences and it has now gone.

Can I undo the refresh in any way?  I have tried and tried but it seems there were no restore points.  Very grateful for any advice as have just managed to get some work for first time this year and need word, excel etc.

@Shawn yes make the users wrong for not understanding Windows 8's arcane messages.  Microsoft can do no wrong (sarcasm.)

For the record Windows 8 is worse than both Vista and ME.

No restore points = no going back. I don't think that you can go back anyway, certainly there is no easy way.

Your other stuff will have to be re-installed..

If you are going to need Refresh in the future, make a CUSTOM Refresh image that better reflects what is installed and running. The new image is not perfect but better than the default Refresh..

    I am no computer geek, i am considered a senior citizen,but falling back on my educational endeavors (in college early 1980's) research first, then compile, sort etc. Always use the help question mark, available through Microsoft and save your self a frustrating situation, and believe me, I have had my fair share. (98,XP,vista and now win 8 (x64)One more thing from seniorette: I keep a computer log for myself, NOT on the computer, and i write down ALL dates and times of every thing that i do to the computer, failed updates, failed downloads etc. So that i can compare, analyze and possibly fix or help fix my problem. I have 4 successful refreshes with Win 8 x64 alone. It's a learning process, and all of us can NOT blame Microsoft for everything. **I read one post here were the customer  spent more time cussing out and blaming Microsoft then she did trying to solve a problem! Wasted energy in all the wrong places.**I also have a successful recovery discs operation with Win 8. ALL of my refreshes were never directly do to anything with Win 8. Both companies exclusively  helped me solve the problems NOT Microsoft,  and i am on site today for learning purposes.I will most likely upgrade when I have Win 8 firmly under my belt.

    Oh yes we can blame Microsoft!!!! This feature has caused a lot of wasted time for people who are WORKING and do not have the time for the great effort it has taken and will continue to take to get back on track!!!

    I'm happy that you did not go through the same frustrations that the rest of us have gone through with this issue.  The problem with refresh is that it clearly states that you can refresh your computer without affecting any of your files.

    This has been an ongoing issue for the past few years, (this is far from the only post with this issue), and most folks are frustrated that Microsoft refuses to address this in a positive way, by the very least, changing the wording to the refresh button.

    I can certainly respect your need to express how you feel about those who spend their time railing against Microsoft, however why is it that someone who hasn't had this problem, is trolling the site "wasting" their time and energy replying to this thread?

    Just curious.......

    Had just experienced this 'Refresh' misstep.

    Were 28 programs removed and listed on the desktop as being removed.

    Going to 'old' windows directory showed 'empty'.

    I detest this Win 8.1 as it is for hand held devices, not desktop users.

    All the executives that condoned Win 8.1 need to be replaced as being dangerous to society.
