A process called Service Host: Local System is using up all of my laptops resources

My laptop has been running very slowly for the past few days which is weird because my laptop is quite powerful and has always run very fast. I looked at my task manager and saw that a process called Service Host: Local System was using up almost all of my RAM. I am running Windows 8 Pro on a Sony VAIO S13P. What can I do to fix this problem?

    Hello everyone!

    Glad to tell you that disabling windows automatic updates did the trick! But, just the installation proccess is disabled, the search of updates is still automatic. So you do get the notification of the updates, so all you have to do is just a few click to manually install them.

    My issue was that my cpu usage was hitting 90% when usually it stays around 18%. I found out that this was caused by the MSI command center, on my pc this aplication didnt work (it was stuck in the opining window) but I just kept it anyway. I started noticing how slow my pc was getting, I deinstalled it and at that very moment the pc started running wonderfully again.

    I want to report a similar problem also, except in my case it is using up my cpu resources. My laptop is pretty fast however this set of services (UPnP Device Host, Time Broker, SSDP Discovery and Function Discovery Resource Publication) all under the Service Host: Local Service (No Impersonation) (4), uses up 64 percent of my CPU. I first realize this problem because i could hear my fan running at really high speed even when all my apps were closed.

    This issue only started recently in the past month and though I cannot pinpoint the exact date, I can saw that I did install the latest MS updates for windows 8 in the last month. Also it seems to do this whenever I run an internet app (can't say for sure) but even after the app is close it continues to run until i manually stop the service.

    Btw: I have a Dell SXPS w/ Window 8 pro (manually installed)

    I have a similar problem to this running on a dell inspiron 15 rwith windows 8 installed and very high cpu usage 97%!

    Thanks of all the info provided in the forum.

    What worked for me was the following steps:

    1. started task manager on the performance tab
    2. Started shutting down each app one by one and waiting for system to stabilise after each
    3. Found that it was Windows media player playing an unknown album.
    4. Shut down windows media player and cpu dropped immediately and also my network (wifi) reduced dramatically.
    5. managed to reproduce this again.

    try this method see if it can solve your problem

    To Fix Memory Leaks on Non-Paged-Pool:

    Changed the registry value instead of using Autoruns:

    window + R then type regedit from that look for this 

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Ndu

    Change the Start value to 4 (for disable).
