A process called Service Host: Local System is using up all of my laptops resources

My laptop has been running very slowly for the past few days which is weird because my laptop is quite powerful and has always run very fast. I looked at my task manager and saw that a process called Service Host: Local System was using up almost all of my RAM. I am running Windows 8 Pro on a Sony VAIO S13P. What can I do to fix this problem?

    I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!

what Ithink has happened is that you have set the possessor to adjust to the background apps, not programs.

    what you need to do:

    1. go to your version of this: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System
    2. click on change settings in the 'Computer name, domain and workgroup settings' section
    3. go to the advanced tab.
    4. there is a button under processor scheduling (near top) that says 'adjust for best performance of: Programs or Background services.' select Programs.

This should fix it. When i restarted my PC it went back to Background tho :( just remember to apply it

I'd recommend taking the back panel of your laptop off and getting all of that dust out of it.

    Hi ShiuabKhan,

i have the same issue with win 10, only started a few days ago. Didn't download any new programs, everything is the same. I've tried method 1 and 2, now running a virus scan, but nothing seems to be working.

My disk usage is 98-100% which is really annoying, and I don't want my computer to age faster because of this. The same program is still the one causing problems, named Service Host: Local Service (Network restricted) (10), but the number at then end keeps changing.

Any ideas as to what I can do to make it go away?

    Thanks,

    O.
