How do I reconnect my drive in Windows ?

I received a warning message "Reconnect your drive.  Your files will be temporarily copied to your hard drive until you reconnect you File History drive and run a backup."

How do I do this?

Sorry for the delay in reply.

Please answer these questions to get more clarity on this issue:

  • Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?
  • Does the computer recognize any other USB device?

This issue might occur if some system files are not working properly.

Plug in the device and run the hardware troubleshooter. Once this is done, restart the computer and check the status.

Follow these steps:

  • Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.
  • Type troubleshooting in the search box and then press enter.
  • Click hardware and sound and run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.
  • Follow the On screen instructions. Once this is done, restart the computer and check the status.

Hi,

If your File History drive has been disconnected for too long, or it doesn't have enough space to save temporary versions of your files. To continue saving copies of your files, you'll need to reconnect your File History drive. Plug in your external File History drive or reselect your network. You can start a backup manually or wait for the next scheduled backup.

Hi Wendy,

Thank you for the reply and update.

As you are able to save other things except for File History, let us plug in the drive and perform a full computer virus scan. Ensure to include the drive also for the virus scan.

Sometimes due to virus infection the computer might not act or work as it should. You may perform a full computer virus scan using Windows Defender to ensure that the computer is free from virus.

    Me too. I guess they mean my external hard drive. Notice that google tool bar has spyware  since google is showing weird pop-ups so had to uninstall that in Windows 10. I understand that windows 10 is full of spyware by design, how do I remove this.? My system runs slow and neither eset security 9 nor malwarebytes can stop it. Then i get this reconnect  drive message. Windows 10 continually told me to repair scan my E drive WD external where I store pictures that are important to me as a back up. HA HA it says infected by google tool bar and "cannot open:

    Malwarebytes finds nothing. and the windows repair did not work. I used norton utilities and it shows the drive repaired now but apparently I have to reconnect it. Do they mean plug it in????  Why can't they explain what they mean in plain English? My E drive has more memory than this laptop.  I just bought a lenovo pc with windows 10 Hope spyware doesn't destroy it. Now I am using Firefox only due to problem with google chrome and toolbar spyware that I cannot see or find. It's embedded and eset cannot open file. It says error opening file Okay Microsof tnever had this with 7 and 8.1 (though I HATED 8.1 I would prefer no spyware that's sick we get it for free so they think they can load it with spyware like the new internet explorer EDGE has it too. Firefox is clean because eset can open secure banking toolbar but not on chrome or firefox.
