what is masetupcleaner.exe

I spent several hours yesterday trying to get Kies to work on my Windows Vista computer, largely to no avail. On starting the computer this morning, I got the MAsetupCleaner.exe request.  Being suspicious, I looked up MAsetupCleaner and found this page. As a consequence, I have now uninstalled Kies.

I have quite a few Samsung products, which I find to be of good quality and easy to use but Kies, which is clearly badly produced software, has put a question mark over the company as far as I am concerned.

I had this problem after installing Kies on my PC in order to fix my daughter's phone. Kies ran like a dog anyway so I was happy to say goodbye.

How did I get rid of MASetup Cleaner? I've got CCleaner on my PC (this is a free tool from Piriform) which hunts down orphan registry items, I found stacks of Samsung debris all over my reg - backed up, cleaned up...all fixed.

I just installed the Kies package (Kies_2.5.0.12114_1_17.exe) downloaded from Samsung last week.  I installed it on a Windows 8 system that was clean.  There was no MASetupCleaner.EXE on the system.

 

After completing the Kies installation MASetupCleaner.EXE did show up in the Windows/WOW64 folder.  It had a date of 11/28/2012.  There were several other programs that were also installed in that folder with the same date.  I did a system restart at this time and rechecked.  They were still there.

 

Next using the control panel, I performed an uninstall of Kies hoping to see that the programs that Kies installed were gone.  No such luck, they are still there.

 

I then did another restart which resulted in a message that sais "do you want this program to make changes to your system"  Yes or No.  while getting a pen and pencil the message went away.

 

I then did another restart which failed and required a second try which worked.

 

Bottom line, I believe this Keis software is a problem and should not be installed.  I will call Samsung on Monday to find out more.  The Software that is the problem is created by MarkAny Inc.  Info can be found by right clicking on the properties of related files and looking at the details.

I installed Kies last night to attempt backing up all my phone data, so I could do a much needed hard reset on my Galaxy 3 in hopes of resolving some major issues with battery life/calibration. Has to top the list for worst software ever. I received the MAsetupCleaner.exe request earlier this morning when I started up my laptop...

Any updates on this latest mess created by the Samsung Kies software?...

Another good idea gone awry-I downloaded Kies yesterday for my new Galaxy note 2 on my win7 and every time I started up my computer, I had pc issues-no firewall, etc. So I open my McAfee which says IT IS running and all is well, but I still ran a scan anyway because it kept showing up as a pc alert.  Kies couldn't recognize my Note 2, kept calling it an unidentified iphone, wouldn't sync, and this morning I had same issues.  I also had a message that McAfee wanted to block GoogleChrome.  I checked in McAfee and it is an allowed program. So I decided to uninstall Kies, reboot, and I got same as above, MAsetupCleaner.exe wants to make changes. What a mess-I'm bummed!  :(
