Touch screen freeze/unresponsive LUMIA 920

I know I am replying 3 years after this question was submitted, but I had the same issue 3 days ago and lost a lot of time trying to find a pattern or a software cause. Then I decided to open up my Lumia and see if I can spot some loose cable. I found the the touchscreen cable got unstuck when i touched it lightly.

It took no more than one hour to open, fix the cable firmly in place and assemble it back. There are many good youtube videos that explain how to open your Lumia and which cable does what.

I urge anyone with same problem not to lose a lot of time restarting or formatting the phone, if the phone randomly becomes unresponsive to touch then it probably is a hardware fault.

I just bought my Lumia 920 and started facing this issue after some MINUTES.

Been reading all the answers over here and trying them, also testing the phone.

Hard and Soft Resets doesn't seem to solve the problem instantly. But when I tried to do so (hard or soft) after some time it worked. And after using it some minutes the screen freezes again. Tried to do it with SIM and without it too. Same thing.

When it is off the charger it takes longer to freezes. It makes me get closer to some hardware issued related to phone heating. Maybe after some heat the board shuts down something related to the touch screen.

It could be a Software issue, but I'm pretty sure that this is HARDWARE related. This makes sense to people telling that turning WiFi off solves it. Turning it off reduces usage and heating too. Reducing number of softwares working background also reduces the processor usage, and heating...

Sure, we just can't stop using all the phone's power just to avoid this issue. The solution is to send it back to Nokia and request a new phone. If this is a Lumia 920's known issue without solution, then, unfortunately it's time to change phone.

After one week looking for a solution, I did a system update to the Lumia Denim throught my PC using the USB cable. The touch screen issue is gone now. After all, it was a software issue.

It doesn't discard the possibility of a hardware issue in other cases.

This is definitely a software issue.  Touchscreen freezes become more and more frequent until phone becomes unsuable.  Download Windows Device Recovery Tool from Microsoft to your computer - open it and connect the phone to your computer via the USB - follow the prompts on the computer screen.  When completed your phone will be restored to factory condition.  You will lose data so back up what you need.  If you need to use touchscreen to back up try the hard restart (vol. down & power buttons) with the SIM card out and the recharge cord in - this seemed to help but might only have been a bit of luck.    MJB.

I had this exact same problem. My phone worked last night and this morning the touch screen was non-responsive. I reset it several times without it helping. I tried holding power and volume down for a full 20 seconds as Jimmy recommended. It looked like it reset several times during this and once I stopped holding them down and let it start up again the touch screen works! Hopefully it will stay working, we'll see.

Worked for me also, I have had my phone for at least 2+ years & this is the 1st. issue I have experienced.  I really don't want to go through the headache of getting a new phone.
