Hello YayaFino,
RT devices can only download Windows updates and apps from the Store. I would suggest you try the Google search app from the Store, it has Google search and 14 other Google apps built in (Gmail, YouTube, Maps, Calendar and many more).

I understand that you have issues with downloading Google Chrome.
Google Chrome is available as a desktop application which can be installed only on Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro Operating Systems.
You will not be able to install it on Windows RT devices.

You're right, very few people use Exchange in a non-corporate environment. But other mail services support the synchronization of calendars and contacts. outlook.com is a great example. It will work seamlessly with Outlook 2007/10/13, Surface Mail, or the web interface.
The simplest way for you to move appointments/contacts from a different mail account would be to configure Outlook 20xx to connect with both your current account and your outlook.com account and ten drag the items from one account to the other.
Thanks, trippma. It wasn't clear to me above that a Windows RT device upgraded to Windows 8.1 was still just considered a "RT device". Unfortunately, noone I know of pays for their own exchange sync unless they're a business, so that's really not an option for the vast majority of home users.
I've started looking into what an outlook/live.com account will sync with regarding calendars and contacts, and apparently it's just trial and error for several more days until i hobble together a solution. I don't know how outlook.com will work off of my Note II or even how it well it will communicate with Outlook 2007 or 2013 for that matter. A quick glance at live.com calendar does not give any "import FROM" options - only import "into", and it doesn't look like it will handle all of the details like reminders properly. The upgrade you're referring to is for Windows RT 8.1. As stated above Windows RT (8 or 8.1) cannot run x86 applications.
About syncing - the synchronization of data is dependent on your email service, not the client (program) you use to access the information (emails, appointments, contacts). The clients don't sync with each other, they sync with the email service.
If you have an email service like Exchange that supports these features then you connect your clients to the server and they all access the same information. Your Microsoft account (assuming you have an @Hotmail, live, or outlook.com address) will do what you are looking for.
