I have been monitoring with Process Expolrer (PE) as SnittyChat suggested in the last post for several months now splitting up the services and watching the NSI memory increase using PE.

I have gone as little as 18 hours and as many as 11 days without issue.  i have followed every bit of advice on this forum from virus/malware scanning, replacing network hardware, updating firmware, removing IE, etc... and nothing seems to work.

    Other observations:

    • The majority of the time after a fresh boot, it will take many days for NSI spin out of control consuming memory.  When I use PE to restart, the problem returns within hours, but is a quick remedy when needed.
    • I have 3 Win7 systems.  One is a work system that has Win7 enterprise and has no issues with NSI. Second one is a laptop with has Win7Pro64 and has no issues with NSI.  Third one is a desktop with Win7Pro64 and is the one that has all the issues with NSI.  The Desktop and the laptop are virtually identical with software installed except the desktop has office 2013, Skydriver, and GoogleDrive.  All of them have all the Microsoft updates applied including IE11.
    • That the issue is not related to network hardware i.e. a router issue doesn't seem to apply since only 1 out of the 3 systems I have has an issue.
    • I have Macs, iPhones, and Android devices on the network. (not sure this is helpful other than to give more information).
    • The difference between the 3 systems  may be that the desktop had the original Win76Pro installed.  The other two systems started with SP1 - these are the ones with no issues.

My next step is to do a clean install of the desktop.  Given that this is a time consuming process, it may be a while before I get around to it.

Open Command Prompt with Admin privileges type the following pressing enter when finished

    SC config WinHttpAutoProxySvc type= own

Monitor NSI for a few days to see what happens

Ensure all drivers, bios and nic cards are up to date

Use the utility listed here to monitor the spikes

Other members experiencing the same issue start your own threads to avoid confusion.  Upload memory dump and relevant information related to the issue to your SkyDrive account.  Include a link to those logs in your post.

I really wish this would stop being marked as the answer when it never has been nor will it ever be in regards to this problem.

As the OP, you have the power to designate the answer if there is one. You can also unmark a post wrongly marked as the answer:

I suggest you do just that; I'm sure the moderator who has repeatedly marked it will respect your ruling.

It is not due to third-party anything or spyware. When I was experiencing the problem I booted my machine with Kaspersky rescue disk and it found nothing, and still the problem persisted.

    Hi,

Since Network Store Interface service (NSI) delivers network notifications (Eg: interface addition/deleting etc) to user mode clients. So I suspect that your issue may be related to Network adapter drivers OR high memory usage of NSI service is mostly caused by third party service or some spyware and adware.

Please follow the methods and check if it works fine.

    Method 1:

I would also suggest you to download and run the latest Microsoft Safety Scanner on your computer and check if it helps:

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

    Method 2:

Follow the steps to uninstall and reinstall the network adapter drivers and check if it works fine.

NOTE: Please make sure you download the latest updated network adapter drivers from the computer manufacturer website before you uninstall the driver.

    a.      Press Windows key + R

    b.      In the run box, type devmgmt.msc and press enter.

    c.       Expand Network Adapters.

    d.      Right click on all the Network Adapters and click on uninstall.

    e.      Restart the computer.

I really wish this would stop being marked as the answer when it never has been nor will it ever be in regards to this problem.Others in this topic as well as myself have tried everything in this post and none of it even helped let alone fixed the issue. It's not the drivers/hardware as it happens for me personally on 2 different computers with the only common software and hardware between them being that they are both running win 7 ultimate 64bit.I even tested on a system with a fresh install of JUST windows 7 64 bit ultimate and it still happened within days of installing it.Nothing else was installed and nothing was downloaded. It wasn't even connected to the internet during the test. It's pretty clear this is an issue within the NSI service whether it be faulty coding to which Microsoft would never admit to or something within this service's interaction with other services/parts of the OS.Either way I doubt we'll ever see anything in the way of a fix from Microsoft as they seem to want to sweep it under the rug so to speak.Community mods etc regurgitating standard troubleshooting that anyone with any PC knowledge would try before coming here isn't really helping either.
