nsi memory leaks fixed yet?

svchost with nsi etc Services - memory use "reset" by wired LAN disconnection.

I've seen the (Win7) svchost containing nsi, COM+ etc rise to Private mem = 3.3GB in two weeks since last reboot and couldn't find any clear simple way to reduce it (have not read whole of this thread).

But a day or two later I did have a bit of luck, memory down to 97K (but heading upwards, almost 24hrs later it is at 557K).

My ADSL router rebooted (lost power or a few seconds), there is a wired LAN connection to the PC (which didn't lose power). I didn't realise this had happened and when I sat back down at the PC at about the same time I was confronted with an unexplained almost totally irresponsive GUI, even Ctril-Alt-Del generated an error dialog (eventually) rather than the std screen.

I left the PC for another few minutes and then found the machine was normalising, but with a high CPU use by the same svchost and a dropping Private memory.

After a few more minutes the CPU  stabilised and the private memory seemed to bottom below 100K (but it is now going back up).

I hope that if I temporarily unplug the LAN cable in the future the same memory cleanup will happen.

Edit: Two days later, Private Mem now grown to 1GB. I unplugged the LAN cable and saw the memory fall to about 70K, accompanied by a burst of CPU activity.

But I don't see how if the memory has got to 1GB in just two days as I previously had a figure of 3GB after a much longer period. Either the leak rate slowed down, or some other "reset" had occurred.

Yet another machine suffering the same problem.  Both hotfixes installed, no effect.  No VBA installed, so can't try disabling that.  User is aged and doesn't want to learn anything new at their time of life, so 10 isn't an option.

It looks like this has been dormant for a while now, but I ran into this issue today and wanted to put some info out on how I fixed it. My SVCHost w/ NSI in it was up to about 6 gigs of memory, looking over some of the info in the post I checked network adapters and have a Virtual Box Adapter. Disabling that adapter dropped the memory usage to under 10mb. I did not have to uninstall it, just disable so I can use it later if needed.

I've just done a completely new build of Win 7 Home Prem SP1, I'm still on IE8 and I have the NSI leakage problem.  Unfortunately neither KB2950358 nor KB2847346 have fixed it either, so who knows.  I'll just have to wait until I get the Win 10 offer, that will presumably fix it.

One or other of the KB's fixed it on my other machines though, it didn't seem to have anything to do with which version of IE I was using.  I suppose if we wanted standardization we'd go for Apple - not that they're doing too well at the moment though.

Please see my 9 November note above.  The rewind to IE8 and then update fix worked on my HP ProBook, but not on my Dell Vostro (both Win 7 SP1 Pro 64 bit).  IE10 gave a 9C59 install error on the Vostro which I could not fix, but IE11 did install (!).  In any case I believe the memory leak on the Vostro restarted with the reinstall of IE9.  Yes, I did check for updates after rewinding to IE8.  All very strange.  I think my problems all started after a massive Patch Tuesday update on 15 July 2015 which coincided with my upgrading to IE11.

Hotfix KB2847346 has fixed it for me (so far!!).
