I have a Dell desktop with Windows 8 and it will wake up from sleep mode if not in use for awhile but if left for longer periods it goes into sleep mode and will not wake up. I have tried to wake it touching mouse touching power button using windows key + C no results unless I do a hard power down Now it has started to download windows updates without installing them The best I saved for last...it will not shut down it only goes into Power Save mode very frustrating...suggestions please?

If you want to locate “integrated graphic adapter sleep” in the bios, I would suggest you to contact your system manufacture. BIOS Disclaimer: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk. Hope the information helps. In my case it was actually not waking. However, checking the bios anyway (F12 at boot) with my DELL XPS, I found a setting called "USB Wake Support," which was disabled. This immediately fixed my problem. No more power cycle to wake up from sleep.

How can I do any of this if it won't wake up! Windows 8 just updated yesterday

by following the original suggestion: doing a hard reset. if still doesn't display at least the initial post to your screen, you have a different issue.

Was having this same problem and I fixed it. Check to make sure it's actually not waking! In my case the computer itself was waking but the display adapter was not. I could hear the processor fan come back on, the hard drives spin up, but nothing on my screen. In my BIOS, there was an option to not let the integrated graphics adapter sleep. It was called "RC6 Render Standby" and I turned it off -- fixed!
