Was having this same problem and I fixed it. Check to make sure it's actually not waking! In my case the computer itself was waking but the display adapter was not. I could hear the processor fan come back on, the hard drives spin up, but nothing on my screen. In my BIOS, there was an option to not let the integrated graphics adapter sleep. It was called "RC6 Render Standby" and I turned it off -- fixed!
windows 8 won't wake up from sleep mode
I have a Dell desktop with Windows 8 and it will wake up from sleep mode if not in use for awhile but if left for longer periods it goes into sleep mode and will not wake up. I have tried to wake it
- touching mouse
- touching power button
- using windows key + C
- no results unless I do a hard power down
Now it has started to download windows updates without installing them
The best I saved for last...it will not shut down it only goes into Power Save mode
very frustrating...suggestions please?

2014-09-10T13:35:30+00:00 I'm having this same issue with both my gateway laptop and my new Asus desktop... Both windows 8.1. Thought it was a hardware issue when it was just my laptop, but it's obviously an OS issue to be happening to both units and all of these people. Fix this please Microsoft! (With an update... not a 25 step "this may or may not work" guide...

2014-09-12T04:58:38+00:00 I tried these. I have a brand new Acer Aspire V3-772G, and it won't wake up. All the drivers are the stock drivers from my manufacturer. I troubleshooted my power plan. It still won't wake up sometimes.

2014-09-12T12:34:30+00:00 It is a made at Microsoft problem. They evidently are not concerned. On my HP, I updated my bios and all motherboard drivers, and hard drive drivers. However win 8 performance is probably half of win 7.

2014-09-17T15:10:15+00:00 I tried this and the problem still persists, like all the other uses with the same problem....Win. 8.1, I also did a complete reinstall, so your advise is useless. But thanks any way.
