I have a Dell desktop with Windows 8 and it will wake up from sleep mode if not in use for awhile but if left for longer periods it goes into sleep mode and will not wake up. I have tried to wake it touching mouse touching power button using windows key + C no results unless I do a hard power down Now it has started to download windows updates without installing them The best I saved for last...it will not shut down it only goes into Power Save mode very frustrating...suggestions please?

When i trun down the screen and i try to open the laptop it doesn't work, i only see the ligths of the keyboard but the screen it doesn't work. Please can you give me the link to download the drivers to solve this problem? Thanks a lot.

Does Microsoft provide a deep diagnostic that will suggest Hardware Firmware updates? There are plenty of post, including mine that show the Microsoft 3 methods of troubleshooting or Graphics drivers won't solve the problem. The one method of creating a new power plan is better if uses completely turn off any power save. The one that made the major difference for me was to un-install the any DLL for power-save. The Energy Star DLL was evidently not full compatible for Windows 8.0. After uninstalling the Energy Star, the MS Windows Power Plan worked properly. After solving this problem in Windows 8.0, it came back in a different way in Windows 8.1. HP provided a Update/Diagnostic tool to keep computers up to date. This product after the update to Windows 8.1 would infinite loop. Deep in their web site, they admitted it had this problem since Windows 8.1. Removed the HP Diagnostic Tool, and many problems went away. It is very important to review all drivers since Windows 8.1. This included my Hard Drive driver, Mother Board drivers, and several other firmware drivers. How can users find out if all firmware drivers are updated and compatible with Windows 8.1?

Was having this same problem and I fixed it. Check to make sure it's actually not waking! In my case the computer itself was waking but the display adapter was not. I could hear the processor fan come back on, the hard drives spin up, but nothing on my screen. In my BIOS, there was an option to not let the integrated graphics adapter sleep. It was called "RC6 Render Standby" and I turned it off -- fixed!
