I have a Dell desktop with Windows 8 and it will wake up from sleep mode if not in use for awhile but if left for longer periods it goes into sleep mode and will not wake up. I have tried to wake it

  • touching mouse
  • touching power button
  • using windows key + C
  • no results unless I do a hard power down

Now it has started to download windows updates without installing them

The best I saved for last...it will not shut down it only goes into Power Save mode

very frustrating...suggestions please?

Was having this same problem and I fixed it.  Check to make sure it's actually not waking!  In my case the computer itself was waking but the display adapter was not.  I could hear the processor fan come back on, the hard drives spin up, but nothing on my screen.  In my BIOS, there was an option to not let the integrated graphics adapter sleep.  It was called "RC6 Render Standby" and I turned it off -- fixed!

I have the same problem with my Dell Inspiron 7520. After I first turned on the laptop and did initial setup, it went into sleep mode after 3 mins. I tried every key and mouse pad but I just couldn't wake it up!! I fianally had to force shut down on my brand new laptop on the first day. Very frustrating!!

Same with Dell Latitude E5430 here. Sometimes it manage to wake up when I press the power button, sometimes it doesn't. Nothing seemed to help. I hate to turn my laptop to not sleep, so please provide a solution! Checked Event Viewer and nothing there.

Me too... brand new i7 with 16 gb of ram...... surely microsoft must have tested this sleep feature? At least made the default sleep configuration actually work.

I'm having this issue with my brand new Samsung Ativ T500, the troubleshooting tips don't make a difference

Hi, I'm also ativ 500T user. I just wrote a long post, scroll down to TROUBLESHOOTING - WINDOWS 8 TABLETS, try there with the bluetooth and intel graphics drivers, also have a look at TROUBLESHOOTING - GENERAL, at the powercfg -requests part.

ah, blast, didn't paste the link - here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/windows-78sleepwakebattery-drain-issuespossible/47728313-01b5-45b5-ba35-b2219a474fdd
