I have a Dell desktop with Windows 8 and it will wake up from sleep mode if not in use for awhile but if left for longer periods it goes into sleep mode and will not wake up. I have tried to wake it

  • touching mouse
  • touching power button
  • using windows key + C
  • no results unless I do a hard power down

Now it has started to download windows updates without installing them

The best I saved for last...it will not shut down it only goes into Power Save mode

very frustrating...suggestions please?

Was having this same problem and I fixed it.  Check to make sure it's actually not waking!  In my case the computer itself was waking but the display adapter was not.  I could hear the processor fan come back on, the hard drives spin up, but nothing on my screen.  In my BIOS, there was an option to not let the integrated graphics adapter sleep.  It was called "RC6 Render Standby" and I turned it off -- fixed!

I had the same problem but I think have discovered a solution. I have disabled hybrid sleep. It still goes into sleep but not hybrid sleep. Not sure what the major difference is  between them - a power safety feature? but it seems to have fixed the problem.

Just manually install your updates daily.  The auto-update causes many problems.

Same problem here on new sony vaio pro 13, happening multiple times a day (about 1/2 the time it enters sleep) since a recent bios update

haven't tried windows update changes but maybe I will.  planning on sending it in for repair hopefully sony can fix something

anyone else have any other suggestions?

I am having similar model just bought 3 days back and I found the similar issue. I was totally disappointed by seeing this and ultimately could able to rectify the issue by following the steps given in the page 1.

    a. Uninstall display drivers and related software from the device manager

    b. Do not restart the system

    c. Download the base level drivers ( Not updated one in oct'2013)

    d. Install the driver from Sony support site and reboot the system

    e. Verify whether the driver is set correctly again by going the device manager (Intel HD graphics should be available)

    f. Verify the version of driver.  It should be 9.18.10.3071.  If the version is different reinstall the driver and restart.

    g. All set.

    Good Luck.

I have had this same issue with my Asus 500T and my Lenovo Helix as well.  I am frustrated that Microsoft has not fixed this issue even on a $1500 tablet.
