I have a Dell desktop with Windows 8 and it will wake up from sleep mode if not in use for awhile but if left for longer periods it goes into sleep mode and will not wake up. I have tried to wake it

  • touching mouse
  • touching power button
  • using windows key + C
  • no results unless I do a hard power down

Now it has started to download windows updates without installing them

The best I saved for last...it will not shut down it only goes into Power Save mode

very frustrating...suggestions please?

Was having this same problem and I fixed it.  Check to make sure it's actually not waking!  In my case the computer itself was waking but the display adapter was not.  I could hear the processor fan come back on, the hard drives spin up, but nothing on my screen.  In my BIOS, there was an option to not let the integrated graphics adapter sleep.  It was called "RC6 Render Standby" and I turned it off -- fixed!

Where do you find the "integrated graphic adapter sleep" ?   I just don't see it.

    Thanks,

    Schmeeer

I have had this same issue with my Asus 500T and my Lenovo Helix as well.  I am frustrated that Microsoft has not fixed this issue even on a $1500 tablet.

You expect MS to fix an issue on an Asus and Lenovo device? Wow.

Of course this might be a universal problem in need of fixing by MS fbut not because your machine happened to cost 1500

    Hi themorrigan

That is the only workaround as of now I have found and  I fixed it in this way  for myself. As I mentioned before if you are sure of you PC model and current version of BIOS and the updated version shown in the manufact web there is no probs as far as I know... and I didn't land up to any probs during the BIOS update

Still... its your choice bro.. try for smt less risky then if nothing works ....  wish you could fix it soon.

not true about being a working solution, maybe for your individual problem. have seen many many others claiming they've tried same to no avail. everything is up to date with BIOS, hardware's firmwares and drivers, and software. have tried almost every solution i can find including:

Mouse, Keyboard, and other USB Power Management options in Device Manager

settings in BIOS with S and other power states

    Window's Fast Boot options

every Hibernate and Sleep option available in Windows

    every network adapter power option

changing Samsung Magician's settings and disabling altogether

G780 laptop running on 8.1 has no problem with any power states. my custom built 990FX on 8.1 just will not fully wake up. same as most complaints; case fans and lights will come on but display and peripherals stay asleep and have to be hard reset, sometimes reset button will work. gettin tired of this ****
