Uanble to install Windows Updates, Error code 0x80073712

I have not been able to install the important updates and the Error codes are 

Code 80073712

Code 80070003

How do I resolve this.

If you receive Windows Update error 0x80073712 or 80073712, it means that a file needed by Windows Update is damaged or missing. Windows has troubleshooting tools that can help you address this problem. Follow the steps below to use these tools.

Method 1: Run the Windows Update troubleshooter

  1. Open the Windows Update troubleshooter by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering Troubleshooting in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking Troubleshooting. Under System and Security, tap or click Fix problems with Windows Update.
  2. Run the troubleshooter, then open Windows Update and try to install the update again.

Method 2: Run the DISM tool

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.

(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.) 2. Enter command prompt in the search box. 3. In the list of results, swipe down on or right-click Command Prompt, and then tap or click Run as administrator. 4. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press the Enter key after each command:

***DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth***

***DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth***
  1. To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.
  2. Run Windows Update again.

Method 3: Refresh your PC

Click Start (Press “Windows Key + Q” to open Charms Bar.)

Type: cmd

Right click on cmd in start menu and select 'Run as Administrator'

Type: net stop wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old

Hit Enter

Type: net start wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: exit

Hit Enter

Restart once it's finished running and see if the return code still appears when checking for updates.

Attempt to download updates

    Hello fellow sufferers.  I went through this nightmare some months ago.  Nothing that the useless MS moderators  suggested did any good and the MS troubleshooter programs are pure useless trash.  There was only one solution short of having to totally reload all your programs, and it is one that MS will not tell you about.  It is called an In-Place Upgrade.  The following link will guide you through it:

    I might add that you could use the ISO with the Spring update on it and kill two birds with one stone. 

    This was the only solution that worked.  It went smoothly and I did not have to reload all my programs and data as you do with MS reset options.  It might break a couple of programs depending on what is on your machine, but reloading a couple is far better than reloading everything.  As always take an image before you start into the process just in case something happens such as a power failure.

    Again I would like to thank and acknowledge the very wise folks at the Win 10 Forum that discovered this and documented it so well.  If only MS would hire people like that.

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth  didn't work for me, it couldn't find the "Source," whatever that is, so it stopped at around 85%

    Tried this, and the /Scanheat option in DISm gave a log file of about 140 lines.

    Lis ot MUMs and Catlalogs  corrupt,

    Longer list of Manifests all zeros or Calalog Expired

    Even longer list of repair files unavailable.

    Tried running the /Restorehealth module and got the following error

    ">C:\Windows\system32>DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

      Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool

      Version: 6.1.7600.16385

      Image Version: 6.1.7601.18489

      Error: 87

      The restorehealth option is not recognized in this context.

      For more information, refer to the help.

       The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log"

    Not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions.

    I tried all the prompts however once I got to the command prompt DISM.. after I typed the command code several times I get an error code of 87. So there goes that route. The first try was the troubleshooting which give me the error of 0x80073712 for Service pak 1.
