Hi Daniela,

It looks like there is something in the network which is blocking the device to get connected. So I would suggest you to go through the article and check for the exact issue.

Why can’t I connect to a network?

Why can’t I find a wireless network?

If you have any third party software installed on the computer, you can try disabling the anti-virus software and check.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Thanks this is a great suggestion for me since I also have a new ASUS computer. For many reasons, removing the ASUS Power4Gear application has helped, WiFi and processor speeds and congestion. The service was always running and activities were constant making those "helpful adjustment" to power settings. Once removed, I just went back to the actual MS pre-programmed power plans.

    Atheros WIFI cards are scanning for access points, even when connected, making wifi connection unstable.

    All you have to do is to disable the background scan by adding a few registry keys:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}\XXXX\Ndi\params\bkScanEnable]

    "ParamDesc"="BackgroundScan On/Off"

    "Base"="10"

    "default"="1"

    "type"="enum"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}\XXXX\Ndi\params\bkScanEnable\enum]

    "1"="On"

    "0"="Off"

    where XXXX —is your wifi adapter's number (mine was 0011)

    After that open Device Manager, find your wifi adapter, open it's properties and set bkScanEnable = off.

    I had the same problem  until i changed the setting in the wifi card.  Search device manager and click on network,  then right click qualcomm atherous,  then click properties and go to AdHoc 11n and enable it if it is disabled.  Then reset the wifi and reconnect.  Hope this works for you

    I have the same problem.  Brand new Vaio with this wireless card.  I have my Linksys / Cisco router set for mixed mode.  If I sit the laptop right next to the router I can connect via Wi-Fi.  If I move to another room where all my other Wi-Fi devices work, this laptop will have intermittent connectivity issues.  For the most part it will not connect at all via w-fi unless I sit on top of the router which defeats the purpose.

    So, this seems to be a range issue.  At one point, the Windows troubleshooter suggested that I restart my cable modem and router.  I did this and was able to connect for a short period of time.  This made me think I had a router issue but the fact that all of my other devices work fine makes me think the router is ok.

    I tried switching the router to N-mode only and then could not connect at all.  I thought this card supported N but maybe not.

    My plan is to:

    1. verify this wireless card supports N networks and then try to force that mode.
    2. maybe upgrade my router

    If anyone knows what I am doing wrong please help.
