Hi Daniela,

It looks like there is something in the network which is blocking the device to get connected. So I would suggest you to go through the article and check for the exact issue.

Why can’t I connect to a network?

Why can’t I find a wireless network?

If you have any third party software installed on the computer, you can try disabling the anti-virus software and check.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Thanks this is a great suggestion for me since I also have a new ASUS computer. For many reasons, removing the ASUS Power4Gear application has helped, WiFi and processor speeds and congestion. The service was always running and activities were constant making those "helpful adjustment" to power settings. Once removed, I just went back to the actual MS pre-programmed power plans.

Anyone having this issue......check your router admin page to determine if the 5GHz is broadcasting under a/n or just n mode. The Qualcom Atheros AR9485WB-EG wireless adapter cannot utilize mode a as it's built for only b/g/n.

You can look up what your router's amdin page would be, but most are either 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2

Just enter those ip addresses into a new browser window and if your router is activated with your ISP, it will launch your router administrative settings page. If you are asked for a username and password, as silly as it seems, enter admin for username and use password as the password. Those are the general defaults.

In essence, don't expect to get the 5GHz signal with this adapter unless you want to open your laptop and do some rewiring. You CAN purchase another adapter if you want it that bad and they come in usb sticks these days. They run anywhere from $10 - $40 depending on the make/model you purchase. They also come in dual band (can handle both the 2.4 & 5 GHz).

I had this problem with a new modem router I purchased. Thought I would never get consistent wifi connectivity.  Finally I downloaded inSSIDer Home SSID scan free. This showed all the local wifi networks in my immediate area and I was able to choose one that gave the minimum overlap and interference at the times I wanted to use my PC. Tt was then a simple matter to select router channels to suit.  This scan also gave a quality rating for each channel you selected, and for other channels in your area.
