Using Windows Phone 8, I am unable to open media content in text messages, says getting content but doesn't open

I received a text with the message "Get media content now". When I "click" on the message phone says "getting media content" then switches back to "get media content". The media does not open. 

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for having written on the forum.

It could be possible that you’re trying to open or download a format file which isn’t supported from Windows Phone 8.

Another origin of this problem could be related with if the files you’re trying to download or open are protected from a password. This feature isn’t supported from windows phone.

    Thanks Salvatore. 

    I don't know what was happening but the problem cleared up about an hour after I posted. One of the messages was a photo in .jpg format and two were simple text messages. I was able to access other things on the phone (like updated emails and weather forecast) while I couldn't access the texts.

    I tried to read them again about an hour after I posted my message and like magic I could see the previously hidden items. I'd love to know what caused the issue.

    I had this same problem a few weeks ago. I had my data connection turned off and connected to a wifi network. Picture messages cannot be received over wifi unfortunately.

    Wish there was a fix for that...

    yep, this is correct.  received a picture text and couldnt open it when my data was turned off despite being connected to wifi - then i turned off wifi and turned on data and it downloaded perfectly.
