Using Windows Phone 8, I am unable to open media content in text messages, says getting content but doesn't open

I received a text with the message "Get media content now". When I "click" on the message phone says "getting media content" then switches back to "get media content". The media does not open. 

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for having written on the forum.

It could be possible that you’re trying to open or download a format file which isn’t supported from Windows Phone 8.

Another origin of this problem could be related with if the files you’re trying to download or open are protected from a password. This feature isn’t supported from windows phone.

    "I'm having an issue somewhat similar on my Lumia 920. Unfortunately, I can't simply solve it by turning data "on." In fact, I already have data on, I click on "Get media content (1KB)" for group texts and "Get media content (32KB)" for pictures, and for some reason it goes into a state that says "Getting media content..." but never actually downloads. So, I can't refresh the message nor can I try to re-download. It is extremely annoying to have to ask people to re-send things many times over.

    I've also run my own tests to see if it is a network issue or a device specific issue. Essentially, I see the text come in with the toast notification saying "Media content in this message." So before I go to the message, I turn on data (I have a 200mb plan so I conserve it) and turn off Wifi so I'm only using data. I go into a couple apps that need network access to ensure my data is working properly and when that is confirmed, I go to the message and click to download the media content. Still, that does not solve the problem. (if it did, I would still be upset that it takes that many steps to see a picture). So, I'm sure it's a device specific issue and keep in mind, this is my 3rd Lumia because the first 2 were messed up and this issue occurred on all of them.

    As of now, I have a 1KB message currently in the "Getting media content..." state and has been like that for two days now. I still have no idea what it says. Any chance someone could help?

    This is exactly what I am experiencing... and I have the same phone (NOKIA LUMIA 928), but Verizon is my carrier.

    I have the same issues for the last three days, what I have just done two minutes ago was, turn off the wifi, and data connection. Then turn data connection back on, and open the messages. It worked and I open the last three messages that I was not able to read before due to "getting media content"...

    I had and still experience this problem. I'm not sure how or why the magic happened, but I kept trying

    and one night they just downloaded and opened. They were all simple photos from my daughters via iPhone 5, and Android phones. Nothing special.

    so I would say I'd they are just pics, keep trying over both WiFi and cell coverage.

    god luck from a confused 1020 Lumina user.

    I have just got Nokia Lumia 520 & i am not able to open the media content. it only says get media content..and even after trying again and again it doesn't open....Then I read all the posts about the same problem being faced by hundreds of users of this phone...i am getting frustrated. Please help.
