Using Windows Phone 8, I am unable to open media content in text messages, says getting content but doesn't open

I received a text with the message "Get media content now". When I "click" on the message phone says "getting media content" then switches back to "get media content". The media does not open. 

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for having written on the forum.

It could be possible that you’re trying to open or download a format file which isn’t supported from Windows Phone 8.

Another origin of this problem could be related with if the files you’re trying to download or open are protected from a password. This feature isn’t supported from windows phone.

    I had the same problem on my HTC Arrive as well as my HTC 8XT (Sprint). I was able to download most media content if I had good 4G signal, but if I received the message when there was a sketchy signal it would revert to "get media content now" over and over. Was really against having the MMS-Group Text setting turned on as I don't like sending/receiving/replying to mass group texts. But finally broke down, turned the MMS-Group Text option on, and tried to download/open the message but same error. Then I tried removing/reinserting the SIM Card, (while leaving the MMS-Group Text on) and then tried downloading and boom! success! half the messages were no longer available but a step in the right direction. Now to see if I can still get the MMS with Group Text off.

    Go to "Settings."  Select "Data Connection."  Turn it off.  Wait 30 seconds.  Turn it on.  Go back to messaging.  Select the "unable to open media."  Should work.

    I'm having the same issue with my Nokia 1020 on ATT. I responded to text sender and mine is a group message from an Iphone. Tried switching off wifi and still nothing. We use group messages a lot and many of my friends have iphones so this is kind of a big deal and I am shocked it's an issue with a $700 flagship windows phone. I'm really disappointed but still within my 14 days of purchase so perhaps I should take it back and return to Android since it played well with everyone.

    I'm having exactly the same issue!  I have tried turning on data connection and off the Wifi and nothing. Very Frustrating!
