Microsoft 'Security' is stupid and annoying

Im not sure who asked the question how i did  it but the full answer is.

I asked on fb if anyone had my old number ending in the last few digits microsoft would show

my ex had the number i googled the number to find the network. I then phoned the network and asked if my old number

was contract or payasyougo because contract would have been cut off if not paid. They confirmed payg but said i couldnt get the number etc etc. i went into the phone store of the same brand and told them i had lost my sim. They gave me a new sim and i believe they ported my old number over. THey couldnt give me a sim of my old number because every sim already has a number hence why they ported it. they did ask for id which i gave them.

once the number was ported over i put the sim in the phone and tried logging into my account and picked send me a code which i then got and unlocked the account. i think this was about a year after i could last use it.

when i say about unique questions i mean a online set of questions not a person but again it should be questions with answers that never change or as you said you should be able to set your own questions

One day i  googled the number and found out what network it was i then called the network and said i had lost my sim card and gave my address they sent me a new one which allowed me to receive the code.

The reality is i use a 4 digit code on my bank app to bank and my bank doesnt need security anywhere near as tight as microsoft yet there is nothing in my email account of any value.

How did you do this mate get a code on a phone number you already lost? What I understand about what you said here is that you manage to get back the old phone number on a new sim and hence you got the code to recover your account?

the form didn't work and my account held cv,s in my name and address and emails the profile had my name and picture i told them i would send photo id or even skype to show its me. i named many other ways i could show its my account they didn't care in the slightest all they kept saying is use the form over and over worst service i have ever had from a company truly awful.

I get what you mean here mate true they could ask just 10 unique questions to recover an account, but that would also mean any one working in there can snoop on our account which I might not be just confortable to begin with. Maybe thats why they can't do that in the first place they say its for my privacy and stuff.  But I should think maybe we can set our own 10 unique question only we know the answer. That is the best don't you think?

I think somehow you misread my message.

Alot of people use apps or browsers which save their passwords for them this means that they

dont actually have to ever type it. By the time your app crashes or your pc fails or Microsoft simply believes someone else has used your account you may have changed your number and no longer have access to it and no longer remember your password. At which point a automated form will ask you questions about your account not questions that never change like i suggested but questions that do therefore it can be hard to remember.

hence why i was locked out of my account for over a year.

that depends.

some people log in with there pc and have a password saved. Microsoft then thinks you have been hacked and makes you change it except the code is sent to a phone you had 2 years ago suddenly you can't get access.

answering personnel questions takes a couple of minutes so no its not really more hassle unless you have problems remembering your own personnel information. 

But if the pc broke, then if my password are autosave then what? And suppose someone is gonna use my PC, then anybody can look up my email account? Of course if I'm going to change my phone I better should remember to update my phone too on my account or my facebook account too. But I know not many people might remember doing that unless they value there account security.

That is actually my problem with the recovery info form. Its kind of hard to remember all the answeres even if I can look them up on my email that is still accessible on my phone.
