Hi, I don't know where to start. This is the second time I've been prompted to enter a 'code' that shall grant me access to my email even though I've only ever logged into it from the one address. I'd been forced to enter an email before which I'm sure is where the previous code was sent. What I don't understand is that if this is for my 'security' how was I able to change that email to something else completely - bounce it to a mate in across the globe who happened to be on the phone with me, who gave me the code to enter to access my own bloody email? Why does someone need to have an email to access an email? And how the **** does that work if you have 2 outlook addresses which require a code from the other locked outlook address? All your doing is pushing people to Gmail duh. When outlook prompted me saying "hey enter the code we sent you" What is the use of being able to change the email to anything you want? Is that secure or just 'Microsoft secure'? If I can change the email to whatever I want to get the code that's needed is this so much a security aspect for outlook or just an info grab so you can record peoples alternate email addresses? No, I'm not giving you my phone number, I have less security on my bank accounts and credit cards whose security is impeccable - its hotmail, get over it and let us just have our 'secret question'. I finally got in another email address (I dont have any idea how, took me 1/2 hour). Then Outlook said it sent me a 25 number code there. It did not, it sent me a 3 or 4 digit code, that I entered. It then said update my info, which was already all correct. I did that several times. One time it asked me for my favorite team...which I never remembered entering because I dont like sports. Things like maiden last name, pets name or first car were things ive entered for safe words. Since I got the team question I was stuck with where to go from there. I finally saw my inbox, and followed links to here. I went to the link you suggested in 'security & passwords' and all it did was ask for a code again to enter a new password. This was not fun time from 12am till 2am when already tired and aggravated. I will look for the link you have circled in red and try that. Hopefully I dont get to go thru it all again on July 6. I appreciate the help, but you have to understand the aggravation from users too as it appears Im not the only one. My email security is not that big a deal to me, I dont deal with finances or anything online...all it is mostly is either junk mail or friends chatting back and forth, so if someone wants to hack in, all there going to do is find out what me and friends are talking about.

I would certainly ask, who turned on your codes? Maybe someone used your password and turned it on without your knowledge? Anyway, to turn it off, you just go to http://account.live.com and click this "turn off" link. If you get asked for a code before you can even get this far, just click the "I didn't get a code" link.

I went to your link and theres no where there I could find that I could turn off security settings. More hair pulling.... When i go to that link, it asks if its me, then gives me a blank to put in another code...what code is that ? I dont want codes, just let me get my mail. I have a feeling Ill be going somewhere else very soon.

Ive been going thru the same thing for 3 months now. It takes me an hour or two to access my email account Ive had for 20 years with no problems before. I also wonder why I have to have another email account somewhere else to regain access to my current account. The code **** is worthless as it does nothing. I just spent an hour again getting in, and Ill expect the same thing will happen on the same date next month. Im old and not too computer savey, and its hair pulling annoying. If I didnt have 100 people who use this email to contact me, Id be already gone somewhere else. **** like this makes me want to shoot myself. RG

You can turn it off by going to http://account.live.com and turning off your security settings.

You can turn it off by going to http://account.live.com and turning off your security settings.
