Microsoft 'Security' is stupid and annoying

Hi,

I don't know where to start. This is the second time I've been prompted to enter a 'code' that shall grant me access to my email even though I've only ever logged into it from the one address. I'd been forced to enter an email before which I'm sure is where the previous code was sent. What I don't understand is that if this is for my 'security' how was I able to change that email to something else completely - bounce it to a mate in across the globe who happened to be on the phone with me, who gave me the code to enter to access my own bloody email?

  1. Why does someone need to have an email to access an email? And how the **** does that work if you have 2 outlook addresses which require a code from the other locked outlook address? All your doing is pushing people to Gmail duh.
  2. When outlook prompted me saying "hey enter the code we sent you" What is the use of being able to change the email to anything you want? Is that secure or just 'Microsoft secure'?
  3. If I can change the email to whatever I want to get the code that's needed is this so much a security aspect for outlook or just an info grab so you can record peoples alternate email addresses?

DISCUSS

P.S. No, I'm not giving you my phone number, I have less security on my bank accounts and credit cards whose security is impeccable - its hotmail, get over it and let us just have our 'secret question'.

PEACE

I have had Hotmail forever now its just a mess. Oh yah don't bother responding I cant get into my email anymore.

despite trying numerous times to subit the form Im getting nowhere.

I was told by a chat agent that if you get 1 thing wrong on the form it wont work.

it asks you to remember previous passwords and address. in 10+ years with 3 accounts and being forced to use a new password if I ever changed it it is impossible to guess everyone I used without getting one wrong. in ten years I have moved about 4 times they don't give me the start of the address so I have no way of knowing which one they want. No matter what I say they keep replying fill in the form. the reason I went to online chat is the form is useless and doesn't work

I supplied them the following details to prove who I am

    1. my youtube channel is number1barber I have had it since 2007 it has videos of me. 2. I have a passport driving licence and sia licence in the name of Jason leo I can send scans of all 3. the pictures on number 2 match the videos of number 1 4. last year I had emails forwarded to Jason_******@hotmail.co.uk from ******@hotmail.com 5. emails in number1barber outgoing and ingoing are addressed Jason leo 6. my paypal address which is 7+ years old is @hotmail.com it is verified 7. my security information on my paypal includes the phone number you was asking for and my secondary email which is Jason_@hotmail.co.uk which I sent you a screenshot of. if you message number1barber via paypal I will get the message in my paypal account. 8. no one has used the account since I was blocked from it so who are you blocking except the owner?
    2. CV in the blocked account is in the name of Jason leo with the phone number you ask me to verify

the only reason I would have everything in the name of number1barber 7+ years ago is either im him or

7 years ago I started pretending to be him by using the same email as him despite the fact I would not have access to it so that seven years later I might use it on the off chance I get locked out. the form is useless as in 10 years I have moved more than a few times I never had any saved contacts I can think of and if you look inbox I didn't have many regular email chats. I had 3 accounts so passwords for 3 separate accounts over ten years equals a lot plus you always forced me to use a new one each time. they keep saying just open another all my websites use that email so changing it is not ideal to say the least. my youtube is now blocked because when I try to reset my password it ask for the day month and year I opened my google account and the day month and year I last used it? how the **** do I remember that so youtube/google are actually worse

Thanks for your reply. Ive had the same email address for 20some years and have had no problems. I cant see how anyone else was using the email addy I have without me knowing. Its not fastguy@hotmail.  If you googled that name, your finding other people. I dont worry about security at my address, nothing is ever on it thats of any use to anyone other than maybe my IP address. As far as logging in occasionally, even if I have to jump thru their hoops a few times a year, thats not a big deal. I know ive gone for months without using it. Its the having to spend an hour or two a month fighting to get access when I do want in. I know people can use email addys to spam or attempt to hack people using one that is not theirs. If the name comes up as in google, does not mean I used it.

Microsoft should take the responsibility to have someone official on these help forums, it shouldnt depend on volunteers like yourself. Either that or have a human person with a phone or email address that can help with problems. Almost all the websites I go to have a real working phone number for help. There are many issues they need to correct...one being unchecking the box for secondary security. Theres no point to having it checked or not if it dont work to turn it on or off. Thats like having a key to start a car that dont have a battery.

I see nothing in 'rules' about how often you have to sign in to stay active, and no way to contact anyone to see.

I have no doubt they either dont read them or dont care.

In general "Microsoft" does not monitor these "Microsoft Community Forums."  By far the majority of responses come from people who are not related in any way to Microsoft but who volunteer their time and whatever expertise/experience they may have in order to attempt to help others.  That includes, specifically, Cmdr Keene and me; we are not "Microsoft."

Your solution of automatically forwarding mail from your Hotmail address to another server is a good one, but I don't know how long a Hotmail account can go without any log in before MS decides that it is abandoned.

I am not at all an expert with regard to Hotmail, but if your account is continually getting locked, I suspect that someone else is trying to log in to your account.  After "too many" (whatever that is) failed attempts to log in, the account will be locked.  A Google search for "******@hotmail.com" suggests that at least 4 or 5 different people have used this email address over the years.
