I was taken to slimware to update drivers. Is this legitimate? Or is there a better, safer way to upadate.

Hi,
You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through 3rd party Programs or Windows Update.
Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

If suggestions above have not help you to get rid of this 'bogus' program, please try Revo Uninstaller and MBAM (as suggested in many related threads) which should take care of this PUP.
MBAM should detect it as 'PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A'.
This > 'Remove PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A virus Removal Guide' may be of assistance.
AdwCleaner (a trustworthy anti-adware scanner) may also be a good idea to search (and remove) for any other Adware or Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might have been installed there with or without your knowledge or consent.
You need to remove - not only 'DriverUpdate' - but everything "SlimWare Utilities" that might have been installed (SlimCleaner, for instance?) there with or without your knowledge.

In response to the Slimware question and I'm not one of you Gurus but if you check you will find the following to be true. As Slimware advertised the download is free but the fix costs you thirty bucks and I promise you you will need a fix.
Also, if you delete the utility don't forget the hooks into your registry and there are plenty of them. So it will pay to know your way around inside there.
When will these shonky companies wake up? They think they can simply barge into/onto someone's computer and dump their garbage to attempt to rip us off. Unfortunately these problems are increasing. Obviously my information is popular, or the mongrel who's been passing my particulars around to unscrupulous businesses has been very busy.
They now have email collection software which will worm it's way through the Internet picking up all emails it finds. It will be set to leave businesses alone and mainly target the likes of us ordinary, ripe for plucking peasants who use domestic ISP's
Where will it stop? Each time we HAVE to download an App we are giving all and sundry our permission to follow us wherever we go on the Net. What we do, what we download, what's on our computers, etc etc. Believe me there's a whole bunch mixed up in the etc's.
We have no way out except leave the Internet. They say they won't use anything which identifies us, **** I don't want anyone to have it in the first place. They have grabbed that information by dubious means, what chance do we have of ever believing them? They are Scum, the dregs of the Internet, If as much work as it put into getting the information in the first place was poured into stopping them, life would be much easier.
The Net isn't such a fun place any more. OK if you are a newbie and not aware of this wrong doings but after a while that nasty taste in the mouth arrives. The latest word on the Net is..... DELETE. It won't stop it but it will slow things down for them.
My virus protection program found adware from the driver update of
Slimware. I would not recommend using any of their products.
