Is slimware utilities legitimate?

I was taken to slimware to update drivers.  Is this legitimate?  Or is there a better, safer way to upadate.

Hi,

You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through 3rd party Programs or Windows Update.

Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

If suggestions above have not help you to get rid of this 'bogus' program, please try Revo Uninstaller and MBAM (as suggested in many related threads) which should take care of this PUP.

MBAM should detect it as 'PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A'.

This > 'Remove PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A virus Removal Guide' may be of assistance.

AdwCleaner (a trustworthy anti-adware scanner) may also be a good idea to search (and remove) for any other Adware or Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might have been installed there with or without your knowledge or consent.

You need to remove - not only 'DriverUpdate' - but everything "SlimWare Utilities" that might have been installed (SlimCleaner, for instance?) there with or without your knowledge.

    I would like to request from all of you folks reading this post to give me a hollar.  I believe that a class action suit may be possible on this if we get a quorum of people who are interested.  I am in the process of contacting my attorney anyway.  So please send me any relevant data as to :

    1.  Where you purchased your computer from.  (location is not important just the store name)?

    2.  Is that store strictly local to your area? (3 large cities or counties perhaps even 8 smaller counties?)

    3.  Did you have a Security Program promoted to you in the store other than what your new computer (or even used computer) manufacturer suggested?

    1. How much money did you end up putting into unnecessary programs during startup and how much time did you lose?

    5.  Did anyone with disabilities suffer at the hands of these you-know-whats?

    The reason I am concerned here is I finally spoke with a representative from the local store where I purchased mine and I am so very tempted to get out my hammer and poster board to walk the line in front.  Picketing will not accomplish much.  But who knows, maybe they'll try to arrest me and then it will be at least local news

    Question for the masses.  Does this 'slimware' come with new products?  For example I just got a new wireless Canon printer, I never saw this when installing the printer.  Then a week later my husband installed a new router, from Netgear.  Only after the router was installed did I start noticing the pop ups to "Update my Drive" and "Scan from Slimware".  I have a fairly new Dell desktop, I get updates from Dell.  I checked the programs in my control panel and noticed that both of the items wanting me to update or install are from Slimware Utilities Holdings, Inc.  I also have had McAfee for many years and haven't received any warnings from scans done with that program.  I am the one that uses this computer daily and I know I did not click on or install any unwanted material.  So again is this 'slimware' attached to the netgear router and if so; what now?

    Slimware is a scam. After I paid for the drivers, the rep could not tell me why a 3rd party was required to update drivers, as opposed to MS.

    Canceled purchase and informed PayPal.

    Went to settings-update & recovery-check for updates. As it turned out, MS had already done all the updates overnight!
