Is slimware utilities legitimate?

I was taken to slimware to update drivers. Is this legitimate? Or is there a better, safer way to upadate.

Hi,

You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through 3rd party Programs or Windows Update.

Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

If suggestions above have not help you to get rid of this 'bogus' program, please try Revo Uninstaller and MBAM (as suggested in many related threads) which should take care of this PUP.

MBAM should detect it as 'PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A'.

This > 'Remove PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A virus Removal Guide' may be of assistance.

AdwCleaner (a trustworthy anti-adware scanner) may also be a good idea to search (and remove) for any other Adware or Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might have been installed there with or without your knowledge or consent.

You need to remove - not only 'DriverUpdate' - but everything "SlimWare Utilities" that might have been installed (SlimCleaner, for instance?) there with or without your knowledge.

Malwarebytes, Scan, Custom Scan, selected all types of scans, including rootkits. It eliminated all occurrences of slimware except 1 at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SlimWare Utilities Inc. I deleted this from the registry. I am going to reboot to see what happens, and then run Malwarebytes again.

I downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a scan several times. Malwarebytes was not able to remove SlimWare Utilities Inc. It still sees it a threat.

PUP.Optional.DriverUpdated, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SlimWare Utilities Inc

What should I do about this? I could do a restore point prior to its installation, delete restore point that came after its installation, and then create an updated restore point after scanning with Malwarebytes. But is this necessary? What does this program really do?
