I was taken to slimware to update drivers. Is this legitimate? Or is there a better, safer way to upadate.

Hi,
You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through 3rd party Programs or Windows Update.
Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

If suggestions above have not help you to get rid of this 'bogus' program, please try Revo Uninstaller and MBAM (as suggested in many related threads) which should take care of this PUP.
MBAM should detect it as 'PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A'.
This > 'Remove PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A virus Removal Guide' may be of assistance.
AdwCleaner (a trustworthy anti-adware scanner) may also be a good idea to search (and remove) for any other Adware or Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might have been installed there with or without your knowledge or consent.
You need to remove - not only 'DriverUpdate' - but everything "SlimWare Utilities" that might have been installed (SlimCleaner, for instance?) there with or without your knowledge.

I received a post to my email about the transfer of Slimware Utilities Inc. to Slimware Utilities Holdings, Inc. but I never used their services. I consider this email as a fishing expedition by Slimware. I'd also like to know how they got my email in the first place. Anyone else feel the same way.
I can't speak for anyone else or SlimDrivers, but I've been using SlimCleaner for over a year now and it's been fantastic.
It has quite a few tools which are handy. The only thing that I've noticed which isn't great is the fact that it can sometimes be a bit slow.
On a side note, Sidhhds481, if you think an e-mail is a scam or an attempt at phishing, the last thing you should ever do is reply to them to 'opt out'. That only serves to confirm that your e-mail address is legit and active. Clicking a link on such an e-mail would have the same effect.

Thanks Jobec, I appreciate the heads up. It could be one of those little darlings they refer to as a "False Positive" A lovely term which means it could be bad, then again perhaps it's not. Sorry, if people can't write software correctly, then it's all bad as far as I'm concerned. I'm fed up with taking gambles.
