I was taken to slimware to update drivers. Is this legitimate? Or is there a better, safer way to upadate.

Hi,
You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through 3rd party Programs or Windows Update.
Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

If suggestions above have not help you to get rid of this 'bogus' program, please try Revo Uninstaller and MBAM (as suggested in many related threads) which should take care of this PUP.
MBAM should detect it as 'PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A'.
This > 'Remove PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A virus Removal Guide' may be of assistance.
AdwCleaner (a trustworthy anti-adware scanner) may also be a good idea to search (and remove) for any other Adware or Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might have been installed there with or without your knowledge or consent.
You need to remove - not only 'DriverUpdate' - but everything "SlimWare Utilities" that might have been installed (SlimCleaner, for instance?) there with or without your knowledge.

the problem with slimware (other than the fact that you can never uninstall their corrupt installation) is they have pop ups advising you to update drivers. I finally made sure that automatic updates that I have turned on, will update drivers. This company still shows up on my Dell under programs and cannot be gotten rid of. It may be stealing information, but I don't know.
I like your point about going directly to the manufacturer. Sometimes we might feel like intrepid explorers traveling around the Internet, perhaps like Shackleton or Peary, or Kit Carson or Hillary (Sir Edmund, not Clinton:-) even though we might end up like Scott instead, or Franklin, reaching for the Beaufort Sea. There is danger enough without going out of our way to take chances. If Slimware, or whatever, is not offering us anything we can't get in a safer place, why wait until we can be sure they are dangerous before deciding not to reply to their spam? Just say no, or actually, don't say anything to them. Keep your shields up, and the best diplomacy is a full phaser bank:-)
