I was taken to slimware to update drivers. Is this legitimate? Or is there a better, safer way to upadate.

Hi,
You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through 3rd party Programs or Windows Update.
Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

If suggestions above have not help you to get rid of this 'bogus' program, please try Revo Uninstaller and MBAM (as suggested in many related threads) which should take care of this PUP.
MBAM should detect it as 'PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A'.
This > 'Remove PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A virus Removal Guide' may be of assistance.
AdwCleaner (a trustworthy anti-adware scanner) may also be a good idea to search (and remove) for any other Adware or Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might have been installed there with or without your knowledge or consent.
You need to remove - not only 'DriverUpdate' - but everything "SlimWare Utilities" that might have been installed (SlimCleaner, for instance?) there with or without your knowledge.

Actually YES the program does do what it says. As ideal as it is to obtain the drivers from your manufacturer I found slimware actually finds more updated better working drivers.
For those who do not know, slimware was acquired by AVG and they use it built in for their driver update utilities.
a PUP is a potentially unwanted program, this does not mean its bad for your computer.
Seeing that AVG owns it, and it works better than the manufacture's website in most cases that I find. I keep the installer around for quick and easy reinstall of drivers without all the bloatware needed from different vendors. It can update systems not made by the cookie cutter builders like HP and Dell without having to hunt down 20 different vendors and pray they applied their update to your product. I find most the time the vendor of additional hardware fail to update their drivers section with the latest chipset drivers and intels detection utility although does work in some cases is fairly junk.
All in all - AVG owns it, it's safe to use, and works well. Use it and uninstall it when everything is updated.
I reported them directly Microsoft. They were the second scam in 2 weeks I had dealt with allowing someone remote access. I'm not knocking remote access, in fact I'm doing more and more of it myself. But, if it's a "popup" on your screen? In my opinion now, chances are it's a scam and stay away from them! A Microsoft Technician in remote access even told me while we were working on my PC, that if I were to get a call from anyone claiming to be Microsoft and offering to do a quick check on my system, not to let them.....BIG SCAM she said. I received 3 phone calls during the time she and I were communicating! What a wicked world we live in now! I think we grew TOO FAST! Maybe need to think about bringing dial up and/or walkie talkie's back! Maybe even smoke signals! LOL.....I can laugh about it now, but it was not funny at the time and I'm sure it never will be.

the man that I talked to was in my computer controlling it. He wouldn't let me logout. He asked for me to go into my bank account. Thank goodness I refused. Are they affiliated with Microsoft? I'm afraid to go back into computer.
