I was taken to slimware to update drivers. Is this legitimate? Or is there a better, safer way to upadate.

Hi,
You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through 3rd party Programs or Windows Update.
Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

If suggestions above have not help you to get rid of this 'bogus' program, please try Revo Uninstaller and MBAM (as suggested in many related threads) which should take care of this PUP.
MBAM should detect it as 'PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A'.
This > 'Remove PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A virus Removal Guide' may be of assistance.
AdwCleaner (a trustworthy anti-adware scanner) may also be a good idea to search (and remove) for any other Adware or Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might have been installed there with or without your knowledge or consent.
You need to remove - not only 'DriverUpdate' - but everything "SlimWare Utilities" that might have been installed (SlimCleaner, for instance?) there with or without your knowledge.

Their Driver Update utility is dangerous in the sense that I've used it and had to roll back the so-called updated driver. But in one instance I could not get an old laptop updated to Win 10 until I used it to update the video driver. I do not use their Slim Computer utility regularly but have used it a couple of times in the last 4 yrs. on some PCs without problems. These are just general observations on my part regarding Slimware Utilities. BTW, I just used HitmanPro and found no issues with SW.
Well, the program itself is. But needing driver updates, for new Dell desktop. Is questionable first-most. All OEM and OS software state all updates are current. Further basic Understanding and 3 whole commonsenscells later . when you uninstall progs like this. they sometimes delete your driver files.....which were fine by the way. But some are legit. But it says it's cleaner not a download driver prog. ??????,, third party. Red flag a big one.
I've been using SlimCleaner for about 4 years with no problems (free version). I've uninstalled it four times without incident before renewing/installing my Trend Micro Max. Security. I then re-install SC. I also uninstall Malwarebytes each time before the TM install (as required) and then put Mbytes back on. All three programs play nice together.
