I was taken to slimware to update drivers. Is this legitimate? Or is there a better, safer way to upadate.

Hi,
You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through 3rd party Programs or Windows Update.
Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

If suggestions above have not help you to get rid of this 'bogus' program, please try Revo Uninstaller and MBAM (as suggested in many related threads) which should take care of this PUP.
MBAM should detect it as 'PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A'.
This > 'Remove PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A virus Removal Guide' may be of assistance.
AdwCleaner (a trustworthy anti-adware scanner) may also be a good idea to search (and remove) for any other Adware or Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might have been installed there with or without your knowledge or consent.
You need to remove - not only 'DriverUpdate' - but everything "SlimWare Utilities" that might have been installed (SlimCleaner, for instance?) there with or without your knowledge.

I'm trying to uninstall the slimware utilities but their box comes up and says "do you want to make changes to you computer" so how else can I get rid of it?

DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM EVER! My aunt purchased it, it them prompted driver updates which then uninstalled her internet drivers completely making it inaccessible to the internet. It also came along with over 1000 detected malware/virus!
Only go with known name providers like Norton, McAfee, ect.
Even just reading through people's replies, if the "providers" are not even helping you with issues, you can clearly tell it is a scam, even read one incidence where they wouldn't help a person until he fully purchased the program. Right there that is a sign not to even bother with it. I truly believe it is a scam! My husband even checked out the site himself and it seemed like a lot of "bot" like responses on the actual site about the product. Don't be fooled into garbage.
I was invited to join a class action lawsuit last year, 2015, against a company that did supposedly did tech work for Norton. They were extremely high pressure with periodic phone calls scaling back their price every time they called, and always using the term "Good Karma" as a friendly gesture. I don't know if the suit has been settled or even if I would have got my money back if I joined it.
Slimware sounded to me like they might be one of the same type. I down loaded there scan but I don't think they down loaded the 4 drivers they said I needed. I definitely had my suspicions after calling their business phone several times with no answer. I checked my American Express account and It showed as a pending charge, rather than an active charge. I called Amex who said they would notify me if they tried to put the charge through. After he went on-and-on about how screwed up my pc was, he listed 3 items on a sticky note which totaled up to around $650.00. I told him my pc was over 5 yrs. old and I could buy 2 surface pros for that and he rudely hung up on me, finally.
