I was taken to slimware to update drivers. Is this legitimate? Or is there a better, safer way to upadate.

Hi,
You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through 3rd party Programs or Windows Update.
Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

If suggestions above have not help you to get rid of this 'bogus' program, please try Revo Uninstaller and MBAM (as suggested in many related threads) which should take care of this PUP.
MBAM should detect it as 'PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A'.
This > 'Remove PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A virus Removal Guide' may be of assistance.
AdwCleaner (a trustworthy anti-adware scanner) may also be a good idea to search (and remove) for any other Adware or Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might have been installed there with or without your knowledge or consent.
You need to remove - not only 'DriverUpdate' - but everything "SlimWare Utilities" that might have been installed (SlimCleaner, for instance?) there with or without your knowledge.

What do you mean by hooks?
i ordered the slimware driver update and it took an interminably long time to download. my computer rejected the information so had to delete it. attempted to contact the company via their listed email (******@slimwareutilities.com) and their telephone #(888 266 7795). neither of these were workable so could not contact company to request my monies back ($29.97). i find this very irritating and will have to go to my bank as a last resort to report this as an unacceptable expense and ask my bank to research the matter and hopefully refund my monies. VERY UPSET. WOULD DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT...
yesterday, 3/31/16 received a reply from company asking me not to contact my bank or credit card company as they were going to refund my monies within 10 days. hopefully this will happen.
I have removed this junk from my system. I got the screen reminder to update driver stuff and did not recognize it. So, after attempting to read the mile long agreement, and seeing that it really seems to INVADE my privacy and distribute it! I read the small writing on the pop-up and looked up the company and when that did not satisfy me, I came here and I am so glad I did!
