How to disable gestures (charms bar, edge swipes, etc...) without changing the registry

I've had a Windows 8 laptop for a few days and the charms bar/settings pages that kept popping up out of nowhere were driving me absolutely insane.  BUT, I finally figured out how to turn them off.

I went into control panel>hardware and sound>mouse>device settings>settings.  From there you can adjust a lot of the trackpad settings, including DISABLE EDGE SWIPES.

I have a Toshiba Satellite with a synaptics mouse/trackpad, so i cant guarantee this works with all models, devices, etc.

Windows 8 for laptop is now tolerable!  Hope this helps!

Try this; maybe it will work:

Control Panel>Mouse>UltraNav>TouchPad Settings>Application Gestures>Edge Swipes>Deselect “Enable Edge Swipes”

This problem is driving me nuts.  I have a new Gateway 64bit running Win 8.1 with all the updates.  I have Synaptics touchpad with V.16.3.  There is no disable edge swipe under settings...anywhere.  I tried to update my Synaptics driver to V. 17, which is supposed to solve the issue, but the installation fails - even after I delete the current driver/reboot/install.  The "swipe in from the right" feature is incredibly annoying.  I found a reg edit that was supposed to solve the problem and it doesn't.  I downloaded a "Charm Bar Killer" that only disables the hot corners, but not the swipe in - which is the main issue here.  There's got to be a solution to this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

My Lenovo Yoga 2 doesn't have any "ZoneConfig" fnolder (and nothing else beyond). I have no idea what to do. It is clear the right edge of trackpad is the issue (even laying my wrist on it when I type).

I have a Lenovo Yoga, too, and here's what I did.

    1. Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse (search mouse if you can't find it).
    2. A "dialogue box" pops up. Go to the Device Settings tab (it has a red icon next to it on my laptop) and press the "Settings" button.
    3. Another box pops up with a list of mouse settings on the left hand side. Click Edge Swipe and from there you can uncheck the box entitled "Enable Edge Swipes."

    Hope this works for you!
