How to disable gestures (charms bar, edge swipes, etc...) without changing the registry

I've had a Windows 8 laptop for a few days and the charms bar/settings pages that kept popping up out of nowhere were driving me absolutely insane.  BUT, I finally figured out how to turn them off.

I went into control panel>hardware and sound>mouse>device settings>settings.  From there you can adjust a lot of the trackpad settings, including DISABLE EDGE SWIPES.

I have a Toshiba Satellite with a synaptics mouse/trackpad, so i cant guarantee this works with all models, devices, etc.

Windows 8 for laptop is now tolerable!  Hope this helps!

Try this; maybe it will work:

Control Panel>Mouse>UltraNav>TouchPad Settings>Application Gestures>Edge Swipes>Deselect “Enable Edge Swipes”

Calm down...darlin, don't sweat the small stuff.

Go to your Start button and right click it. Suddenly out of no where, our beloved "list" of major league buttons show up! I did try a few other things but this one was the easiest. Imagine, Micro doing all that work to bugger us up with charms and hidden info we find important. Fire them or better, Take them to the Gallows!!

    Blessings.

Not only did this fix my problem, I learned more about my computers workings and solved another issue while working in Reg Ed! Thank you! Although I am married and deeply in love with my husband, I have a small place in my heart for you.

    Luv ya!

Well, thanks to the way each Windows version is worse than the last, I can no longer even find the Control Panel.
