Updates trying to install over and over again (KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583)

These three updates are trying to be reinstalled over and over again.  Replicable on both PCs

  • KB2760583

The updates are trying to be install over and over again.  Every time I click "check for updates," there it appears again.

Update 1: I have tried restarting the PC.  Nothing.  I have also tried FixIt when trying to troubleshoot Windows Update errors.  Still nothing.  The FixIt simply "runs" till the end and then says "finish."  It did not offer to fix anything.

Windows 7 X64 SP1 with Norton Internet Security 2013 (version 20).

Known issues with this security update

  • You may be repeatedly offered this update even though it is already installed. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

Update 5: I did not have to do anything on my part (like re-install updates), so it's probably a detection issue on Microsoft's part.

    Yes, I can confirm this too. I unhide the updates and when I checked for updates I get "Windows is up to Date" :D I don't think a hotfix was issued, so I guess the updates were not bugged maybe windows update servers had problems refreshing .

    Confrimed here on Win XP Pro, just reverted to Microsoft Update , scanned and no High Priority Updates available. Previously KB2810048 for Excel 2003 had been repeat installing. I didn't hide it, merely switched to using Windows Update only.  

    EDIT: Also confirmed on XP Home with KB2760411 and KB2760588.

    Don't like to suggest you're wrong,but I doubt whether MS would even have a mailing list for all affected XP users and you absolutely can hide and restore updates at the Microsoft Update site when using XP.

     

    Just put checkmarks in the "Don't show this update again" box. (Note: you must click on the + next to the update to expand the entry and display the Don't show this update again option.

    To restore put a checkmark in the box next the the hidden update.

    The Change settings option is the selection to switch from Microsoft Update to use Windows Update only.

    I just fixed this problem for my PC that is NOT a workaround.  I just posted a step by step instruction on how I got this endless update loop to stop for good.  I hope this works for you as well.

    Took advice above, but still received "Update Ready for installation" message.

    However, problem has been fixed on my computer (obviously by Microsoft in Update).

    (1) I unhid the update that kept repeating.

    (2) deleted the Excel 2003 (KB2810048) installation showing in Control Panel/Programs.

    (3) I reinstalled the Update.

    (4) STILL received another message saying “Update Available.”

    (5) Ran another “check for updates.”

    (6) Received message “No Updates Available.”

    Thank God.

    Since this has been occurring since 9/10/2013, it has been a real pain.
