Updates trying to install over and over again (KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583)

These three updates are trying to be reinstalled over and over again.  Replicable on both PCs

  • KB2760588
  • KB2760583

The updates are trying to be install over and over again.  Every time I click "check for updates," there it appears again.

Update 1: I have tried restarting the PC.  Nothing.  I have also tried FixIt when trying to troubleshoot Windows Update errors.  Still nothing.  The FixIt simply "runs" till the end and then says "finish."  It did not offer to fix anything.

Windows 7 X64 SP1 with Norton Internet Security 2013 (version 20).

Update 5: I did not have to do anything on my part (like re-install updates), so it's probably a detection issue on Microsoft's part.

    If you look at the More Info pages for these updates, under known issues, MS now states:

    Known issues with this security update

    • You may be repeatedly offered this update even though it is already installed. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

    Someone else on the thread suggested downloading the updates directly from Microsoft.com and installing manually (but I haven't been able to find that post again - apologies). I tried that and each says that the patch installed successfully.

    Given that, I am taking the approach others have suggested: hide these updates and get on with things!

    On one system 2760411, 2760588, and 2760590 (not 2760583) are reappearing in Microsoft Update as described below.

    OS: XP Home Edition fully patched with all available Microsoft Updates thru MS Security Bulletin for Aug 2013 (which is thru MS13-066) installed before the MS13-072 and MS13-073 Security Update Issue noted above occurred.

    Installed Office Applications:

    1.) Microsoft Office Excel Viewer for Excel 97, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2010 files. About: (12.0.6679.5000) MSO (12.0.6683.5000).

    2.) Microsoft Office Word Viewer for Word 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2010 files. About: (11.8406.8405).

    3.) Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 3.

    4.) Office 2010 File Validation Add-In.

    On this system, the Security Updates that are reappearing in the Microsoft Update list of available updates after being installed via Microsoft Update are: 2760411 (MS13-072), 2760588 (MS13-073), and 2760590 (MS13-073), not 2760583 (MS13-073).

    Interestingly, after manually downloading 2760411, 2760588, and 2760590, I first tried installing them before uninstalling. All three reported that they were already installed on the system, which is interesting as they are reappearing in Microsoft Update as if they were not already installed.

    I have the exact same problem with the same updates.  This is the first time this has happened.  I contacted Microsoft through their chat room and he had me run a fixit link which did not work.  They told me if that did not work, I shoud contact them again and they would look further for $99.  I am not going to do that because I think it is a microsoft update problem and if they receive enough complaints they may resolve the problem with their end.  I run windows xp.

    This has been going on with me all day today on Windows Vista. KB 2760588 and KB 2760411 has installed 6-7 times and keeps coming back to be installed again.  I can't beleive M/S wants 99 bucks to fix thier problem!  Fix it!!!!!
