Updates trying to install over and over again (KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583)

These three updates are trying to be reinstalled over and over again.  Replicable on both PCs

  • KB2760588
  • KB2760583

The updates are trying to be install over and over again.  Every time I click "check for updates," there it appears again.

Update 1: I have tried restarting the PC.  Nothing.  I have also tried FixIt when trying to troubleshoot Windows Update errors.  Still nothing.  The FixIt simply "runs" till the end and then says "finish."  It did not offer to fix anything.

Windows 7 X64 SP1 with Norton Internet Security 2013 (version 20).

Update 5: I did not have to do anything on my part (like re-install updates), so it's probably a detection issue on Microsoft's part.

    I hit KB2760411 looping on my Windows 8 system and worked around it myself by searching the registry and seeing what the update was being applied to.

    The application I found was called:

        "Microsoft Office Visual Web Developer 2007"

    Version:

        12.0.4518.1066

    I ran the uninstall command for this MSI package from an elevated CMD.EXE window, which was:

    MsiExec.exe /X{90120000-0021-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}

    After doing this, I re-scanned with Windows Update, and it no longer detected KB2760411

    This is a workaround, not a "fix", since the application affected is now removed from the system, but since I didn't really use that program in the first place, it seemed fine for me. :-)

    It also may not solve your particular case, because that update could apply to other applications.

    We also have this issue on all our installations (about 700)

    I hope Microsoft will fix this Problem soon. Our Helpdesk gets overloaded :(

    Hiding update is not an option, also declining the updates in WSUS is not really the best solution.

    It's almost certainly a detection problem. Microsoft should reissue the update in a few days with a fix.

    I agree. In the mean time you can hide the update by right clicking the update in the update list and select "Hide update". That will prevent the update(s) from bugging you again. Then, in a couple of days check whether Microsoft has fixed the issue and then, if so, go to Windows Update > Restore hidden updates and unhide them. I have the same issue with the above mentioned three updates and for now I done what I have described as a workaround. As these updates are included in the list with installed updates I am not afraid that Office has not been patched.

    "hide update" is the best answer for now.

    we can try to check "Microsoft update" in a few days to see if their IT genius have fixed this issue

    KB2760411, 2760588, 2760583 are so annoying even you have installed successfully millions times...
