Updates trying to install over and over again (KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583)

These three updates are trying to be reinstalled over and over again.  Replicable on both PCs

The updates are trying to be install over and over again.  Every time I click "check for updates," there it appears again.

Update 1: I have tried restarting the PC.  Nothing.  I have also tried FixIt when trying to troubleshoot Windows Update errors.  Still nothing.  The FixIt simply "runs" till the end and then says "finish."  It did not offer to fix anything.

Windows 7 X64 SP1 with Norton Internet Security 2013 (version 20).

Known issues with this security update

  • You may be repeatedly offered this update even though it is already installed. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

Update 5: I did not have to do anything on my part (like re-install updates), so it's probably a detection issue on Microsoft's part.

    Having uninstalled Office 2007 (the last suite that supports MODI) I hope you don't have to view multiple page tif files because Microsoft (in their infinite wisdom) removed it from Office 2010

    I just noticed this issue yesterday and for the computers we have this is what fixed our issue:

    We have Win 7 64 machines with office 2010 installed. However, it was installed as an upgrade to office 2007 so both office versions show up in programs and features.

    I uninstalled both and then just reinstalled office 2010. After a reboot, the problem updates disappeared and all is well.

    I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but hopefully it may help some of you...

    Exact same issue here...Desktop running windows 7 pro 64 bit.... all updates always done manually (set for windows to let me know).

    After reboot it shows the shield on SHUT DOWN button showing to shut down/reboot to complete process and goes thru same thing each time reboot shows screen updating 1 of 3/ 2 of 3/ 3 of 3. Arrive back at desktop shows shield gone and all looks good 5 minutes later and windows update is in notification center showing same 3 update AGAIN. all are listed as being done succesfully.

    WINDOWS UPDATE ISSUE for sure

    Yes Joel I think you have the same setup as me on my home machine - Office 2003 plus the Office 2007 compatibility pack which adds support for the newer .docx .xlsx and .pptx file formats

             

    Yes, you're right, I do have the compatibility pack.  I hadn't thought of that.  I wonder if that could be part of the issue, that it's trying to apply an update to a compatibility pack instead of full Office 2007?  Previous updates were probably configured correctly for this, but maybe they left something out this time.  Either way, it's become quite obvious that it's a bug.  I'm sure it will be addressed, but how soon, who can guess?  As long as it's not causing catastrophic system failures, MS will take their own sweet time about it.

    Something that just occurred to me is that it's quite possible that Microsoft will fix these updates and then reissue them with the same numbers.  If that happens, we won't know whether to install them or not.  Hopefully they will do something to avoid such confusion.
