Updates trying to install over and over again (KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583)

These three updates are trying to be reinstalled over and over again.  Replicable on both PCs

  • KB2760588
  • KB2760583

The updates are trying to be install over and over again.  Every time I click "check for updates," there it appears again.

Update 1: I have tried restarting the PC.  Nothing.  I have also tried FixIt when trying to troubleshoot Windows Update errors.  Still nothing.  The FixIt simply "runs" till the end and then says "finish."  It did not offer to fix anything.

Windows 7 X64 SP1 with Norton Internet Security 2013 (version 20).

Update 4: Microsoft has now offered a statement regarding this bug:

Known issues with this security update

  • You may be repeatedly offered this update even though it is already installed. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

Update 5: I did not have to do anything on my part (like re-install updates), so it's probably a detection issue on Microsoft's part.

    And they should pay. An airline company that causes you delays in your travel plans pays so why not MS.

    If Microsoft had to always pay for all the world-wide hours lost due to c--k ups like this one, they'd go bust in no time.  "Some Customers..." indeed!  I suspect this affects just about everyone worldwide who uses automatic updates!  Microsoft isn't the only company that gets embarrassed by this sort of thing - it also affects people like me who tell others that having automatic updates enabled is important.  I'm now going to have to revise and caveat what I recommend to others to avoid looking stupid. Thanks, Microsoft!

    Hi Maureen!

    To hide an update you follow these steps:

    1. Open the **Control Panel (icons view)**, and click/tap on the Windows Update icon. (see screenshot below)

    2. After Windows Updates or you check for updates, click/tap on the .....update(s) is available link. (See screenshot below)

    3. Right click or press and hold on a listed Windows Update that you want to hide, then click/tap on Hide Update. (See screenshot below)

    4. If prompted by **UAC**, then click/tap on Yes or enter the administrator's password.

    5. You will now notice that the now hidden Windows Update is grayed out. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to hide another Windows Update. When done, click/tap on OK. (See screenshot below)

    6. You will now see this if you do not have any unhidden Windows Updates left to install. (See screenshot below)

    And, yes, you can remove 5 updates

    Hi,

    I am having the same issue as everyone else is, on both of our computers.

    We have XP and MS Office 2003.

    I need to know the steps on how to hide the update in the update list, or where the do I look please.

    Also this update has downloaded 6 times, can I remove 5 updates?

    Please advise.
