These three updates are trying to be reinstalled over and over again.  Replicable on both PCs

The updates are trying to be install over and over again.  Every time I click "check for updates," there it appears again.

Update 1: I have tried restarting the PC.  Nothing.  I have also tried FixIt when trying to troubleshoot Windows Update errors.  Still nothing.  The FixIt simply "runs" till the end and then says "finish."  It did not offer to fix anything.

Windows 7 X64 SP1 with Norton Internet Security 2013 (version 20).

  • You may be repeatedly offered this update even though it is already installed. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

Update 5: I did not have to do anything on my part (like re-install updates), so it's probably a detection issue on Microsoft's part.

    Well, here it is, another day, and the 3 updates are still showing up. Windows 7 64 with one Office 2007 program installed and one Office 2003 program installed (along with the full Office 2010 suite).

    This actually can become a serious problem in certain cases, we had a very nasty thunderstorm come through yesterday with lots of nearby lightning strikes. I went to shut the computer down, and hadn't disabled automatic updates yet, so rather than shutting down it went into the install routine. Several more near lightning strikes later it finally finished and shut down. 

    MS, how hard can this be to fix? You put out patches all the time. What is going on with these?

    I am wondering if the deployed updates can't be recalled, and can't be overwritten, so instead they need to write another patch that removes these and replaces them with ones that don't keep reinstalling.

    installing multiple office versions ends in spaghetti code & tears, why isn't each version sand boxed?

    Alex is right. The quicker Microsoft come up with a patch the better. We don't want people abandoning Windows Update it will lead to virus attacks becoming even more prevalent.

    Come on Microsoft, sort it out please.

    My list of looping updates for XP SP3 with Office 2003 and the various Office Readers:

    KB2760588

    KB2760590

    KB2810048

    For the moment I have removed all the updates using "Add/Remove Programs" and hidden the updates using the Windows Update interface.

    On my computer KB2760411 had to be removed from THREE different places in "Add/Remove Programs" (Office Suite and two Readers). Never had to do that before.
