Updates trying to install over and over again (KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583)

The following worked for me to stop the continuation of upgrading items for Microsoft Office 2007. It "may" work for you.

1. Temporarily turn off the updates.
2. If you "Used to have Office 2007" on your computer AND HAVE UPDATED to e.g. Office 2010.

A). Look for any references to OFFICE 2007 ANYWHERE and DELETE the programmes concerned.

      - You should ONLY have the MORE RECENT programmes on your computer.

 B) Look for the UPDATE KB References that are giving you the problem and DELETE these also.

3. When you have DELETED THESE items TURN ON UPDATES again.
4. TO "TEST" this out, do a "CHECK FOR UPDATES" again.

When I did this the problems stopped since there was NO "OFFICE 2007" items to UPDATE.

Of the ones having this problem, I've only had the problem with KB2760411. I read the article that accompanies it and verified the file date, size, and version number. The size and version number are correct after the install, but the date/time stamp is wrong. The file that is installed is stamped 2 hours older than the article states (yes, I've adjusted for UTC). I don't know what Windows Update uses as criteria to think it has an updated file (hash, version, size, date/time, etc.), but could it be thinking that it has one that's 2 hours newer and that's why it keeps offering it? However, when the file is downloaded and installed, it's the one I currently have which is stamped 2 hours older than the article states.

I only have one of the fixes that keeps reappearing, KB2760411, but I noticed something else.

I have a Dell system that came with Microsoft Office Starter 2010 pre-installed (Windows 7 64-bit) and it works fine for what I do. I noticed after these "fixes" went on that my Word documents were no longer marked as W documents, now they are marked as Microsoft Office documents and if you double click one to open it you get the opportunity to buy Office.

Looks like these updates changed the file associations from "Microsoft Office Client Virtualization Handler"  to "Microsoft Office".

I am not happy about it. I can manually change them back and hope I get them all right. My Microsoft Word Starter 2010 never stopped working, but all the associations were changed. It looks like the same is true for the Excel type files.

I am not sure if I should go change them all or wait for Microsoft to fix this mess but the changed File Associations are part of this mess.

There's no way to know yet if it makes a difference whether or not you uninstall the broken updates before hiding them.  Until Microsoft puts out an official recommendation, I think I will uninstall mine.  Otherwise, any fix they put out will likely have to do that automatically.  Also, if these updates have a bug like this, who knows what other issues they may have?

My Microsoft Windows update history shows Security Update for Microsoft Excel 2007 (KB2706583); Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2760588); and Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2760411), were all installed three times successfully on September 11 and 12, 2013. When I tried to use Microsoft Fix It, an error message popped up claiming that I had to download .NET Framework 2.0 or higher to work, but my PC already has .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 along with update KB963707 for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed. Each time I run the Fix It program, it bounces me back to downloading the same .NET Framework version. This issue is getting to be very time consuming.
