Updates trying to install over and over again (KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583)

These three updates are trying to be reinstalled over and over again.  Replicable on both PCs

  • KB2760583

The updates are trying to be install over and over again.  Every time I click "check for updates," there it appears again.

Update 1: I have tried restarting the PC.  Nothing.  I have also tried FixIt when trying to troubleshoot Windows Update errors.  Still nothing.  The FixIt simply "runs" till the end and then says "finish."  It did not offer to fix anything.

Windows 7 X64 SP1 with Norton Internet Security 2013 (version 20).

  • You may be repeatedly offered this update even though it is already installed. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

Update 5: I did not have to do anything on my part (like re-install updates), so it's probably a detection issue on Microsoft's part.

    Yes Joel I think you have the same setup as me on my home machine - Office 2003 plus the Office 2007 compatibility pack which adds support for the newer .docx .xlsx and .pptx file formats

             

    Yes, you're right, I do have the compatibility pack.  I hadn't thought of that.  I wonder if that could be part of the issue, that it's trying to apply an update to a compatibility pack instead of full Office 2007?  Previous updates were probably configured correctly for this, but maybe they left something out this time.  Either way, it's become quite obvious that it's a bug.  I'm sure it will be addressed, but how soon, who can guess?  As long as it's not causing catastrophic system failures, MS will take their own sweet time about it.

    Something that just occurred to me is that it's quite possible that Microsoft will fix these updates and then reissue them with the same numbers.  If that happens, we won't know whether to install them or not.  Hopefully they will do something to avoid such confusion.

    It's a bug by what I see.

    If you look at your installed updates at: Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Programs and Features/Installed Updates

    Notice that the update doesn't even show up as installed. I can't find it on my list anyway, especially considering it would show up multiple times, due to how many times I tried installing it.

    I also have Microsoft Office 2010, so I'm pretty sure it's just a bugged update concerning 2007.

    For me, the two updates were KB2760411 and KB2760588.

    I can see that it seems to only install once despite the numerous 'successful' new updates.  the 2 lists are not the same.  I guess I feel better seeing this, but i agree with the 'bug' classification. I had my 2 computers one without the problem/bug which , as of 9AM Eastern daylight time is now on its second notification and subsequent update of the ...411 and ...588 updates.

    Same problems.  Win 7 Pro Office 2010.  Yes office 2007 updates three of them. kb2760411 kb2760588 kb2760590

    I'm having the same issue (almost).  The only difference is, instead of KB2760583, it's KB2810048 that's stuck, in addition to the same other two that everyone else has reported.  I think the difference is due to the fact that I don't actually have Office 2007 installed, it's Office 2003.  KB2810048 is a security update for Excel 2003.  For some reason, even though I don't have Office 2007, I always get updates for it.  They always seem to install OK, though, so I never really questioned it.  I think for now, I will just hide these updates.  Windows 7 home Premium, 64 bit.
