Yes Joel I think you have the same setup as me on my home machine - Office 2003 plus the Office 2007 compatibility pack which adds support for the newer .docx .xlsx and .pptx file formats
Yes, you're right, I do have the compatibility pack. I hadn't thought of that. I wonder if that could be part of the issue, that it's trying to apply an update to a compatibility pack instead of full Office 2007? Previous updates were probably configured correctly for this, but maybe they left something out this time. Either way, it's become quite obvious that it's a bug. I'm sure it will be addressed, but how soon, who can guess? As long as it's not causing catastrophic system failures, MS will take their own sweet time about it.
Something that just occurred to me is that it's quite possible that Microsoft will fix these updates and then reissue them with the same numbers. If that happens, we won't know whether to install them or not. Hopefully they will do something to avoid such confusion.
