This:

  1. Open an administrative command prompt
  2. Type the following four commands:
  3. net stop wuauserv

cd %systemroot%

ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

net start wuauserv 4. Try to install updates again.

and this:

a)Right Click the Start screen (bottom left hand corner)

b)Click "Run"

c)Type: "WSReset.exe" and hit enter

was solving my issue.

Thanks.

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your response.

This problem may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  1. If the Windows Update database is corrupted.
  2. If the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) service does not receive a content link header.
  3. If a required system file is registered incorrectly.

Please follow the below steps and check if it helps:

I suggest you to refer to the section: manually reset windows update components from the following link:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058?wa=wsignin1.0

NOTE: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Please do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

Now you're just being unfriendly. And nope - calling me "friend" does not help.

My assumption stems from the fact that vast majority of users does not have a problem with Windows Store. Otherwise this forum, this thread, Twitter, Reddit would be bustling with activity.

Perhaps the problem is just with some Windows OS images on early Surface Book releases. I do not know. But you can ask Microsoft directly. This is a community forum only with occasional MS input but it seems that the problem does not warrant one.

In order to keep this thread clean and leave it for troubleshooting purposes (rather than unfriendly conversation) I suggest that you contact MS Support directly: https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/contact-us.

    That, my friend, is silly.

This's surface book is brand new. There is nothing on it that Microsoft didn't install.

The problem showed within :15 minutes of creating the profile twice.

Given Microsoft's history of Win10 there very likely is a bug in the windows store.

Wow. How about ask more questions and assume way less?

I would say that vast majority of Windows 10 users do not have the problem as you had described. Each issue may be different. I believe assuming that it's an "an issue in the Windows Store app itself and it's registration process" is unwarranted.

I would advise to check what is different on your system comparing to the system that does not have the problem. Could be third-party software (like CCCleaner or other cleaning utilities which are unsupported by Microsoft).
