1. Did you use CCleaner's Registry Cleaner or its Programs to Remove tool to "uninstall" iTunes?
2. When (exact date, preferably) did you use CCleaner to "uninstall" iTunes?
3. Why did you need to "uninstall" iTunes?
4. Did you recently run Win7's Windows Update troubleshooter for some reason? [1]
5. When (exact date) was KB2670838 installed according to Installed Updates? [2]
6. In your previous reply, you told me:

ie9 is not [listed] in the update history

And now you just told me:

The only thing in my Update History is "Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems"

When (exact date) was Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems installed according to Update History?

[1] This would explain why your **Update History** only displays one (1) update (i.e., IE9).

[2] I am *NOT* suggesting or recommending that you uninstall KB2670838 at this point!

1: The Avira licence is active until july 2013. I assume it is automatic because I do not remember licensing it.

2: Yes, to uninstall iTunes, because I could not get it to leave without it.

Are you suggesting that I uninstall KB2670838?

It is not ie10 so much, but I want the update to not be in my status bar, failing every couple of hours. Whilst I am a home user, I did pay for this os. If a feature is not going to be supported, it should not be offered.

1. Avast/Avira, both require annual licenses. Have you faithfully renewed your Avira AntiVir license every year and have you done so beforeyour current license expired?
2. Have you EVER had CCleaner's Registry Cleaner "fix" anything?
3. Is KB2809289, KB2792100, KB2761465, KB2761451, KB2744842, KB2722913 and/or KB2719177 listed in Update History and if so, is it listed as a successfully-installed update or...?
4. Is Update for Windows 7 (KB2670838) listed in Installed Updatesand/or as a successfully-installed update in Update History?

NOTES/COMMENTS:

If the second line of **IE Help | About** [**Alt+H+A**] reads
**Update Version: 9.0.14 (KB2809289)**, IE10 did not successfully installed no matter what
**Update History** and **Turn Windows features on and off** says.

In the near future (one assumes), Microsoft *should* begin offering home users (only!) no-charge support for IE10 install and uninstall issues. For now, however, you're on your own so you're best bet is to hide IE10 (*and KB2670838 IMHO*) &
 stick with IE9 for the time being.

TIP: Others who've encountered similar problems installing IE10 ended up having to do a Repair Install (AKA startup repair) of Windows to resolve the problem.

6: It has started working on the 32bit version. The 64bit version does not launch the security prompt to allow the verifier to run.

7: no. I tend to use it just for analysis rather than running a cleanup.

2b. When (exact date) was Windows Internet Explorer 9 installed according to Update History*?*

3. When (exact date) was KB2807986 installed according to Installed Updates?
4. IE10 - not IE9 - is listed in Turn Windows features on or off, is that correct?

5a. How long (approx.) was the computer connected to the internet before you got Avast Free installed?

5b. Neither Avast Free nor Avira Antivir Free is subscription-based but you must obtain a license to use it and you must renew the license annually in order for it to keep working. Have you been doing so?

6. What happens when you try to check your Java version by opening Internet Explorer (only!) to http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp ?
7. Do you have backups of ALL the changes CCleaner's Registry Cleaner has EVER made to the computer? [1]
