Can't open my external hard disk, it's saying to Format it.

I have the same problem, my hdd does not want to open, can you please help with the solution. it seems like there are solutions but they are only been shared via emails.

1. Are you facing the issue with all the external devices you are trying to connect the computer?
2. Did you try connecting the device to a different computer and check?

Windows keeps asking me to format my external flash drive 

Note: The above mentioned article contain steps to perform check disk. While performing check disk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost. Make sure you have a backup of all the important data on the computer.
