Recently something has occurred affecting the folder Libraries.
In it when I click on the documents folder in my libraries I get this message
“Documents.library – MS is no longer working
This library can be safely deleted from your computer. Folders that have been included will not be affected.”
This also goes for the Pictures, music, video folders in the Library folder in my explorer in Windows 8. I have tried deleting them as suggested and the contents have disappeared from the Libraries folder.
How do I restore these Library folders in Win 8 to working ones not flashing up error messages?

I too tried Vikrant Yadav's answer and it didn't work.
However, I discovered Method 1 works if you add one step.
If I took the (admittedly scary) step of deleting the libraries first (in my case it was all of them including an extra one I created for myself), "Restore Default Libraries" worked. For the default ones. I had to recreate my custom one.

This issue could be caused due to a corrupted system file. I would suggest you try these steps and check:
To fix the issue I would suggest you to follow the methods provided.
Method 1: Restore default Libraries
I would suggest you try the restore library option and check if it helps. Please back up all the files in the library before trying this, just to make sure you don’t lose any files. Refer these steps:
a) Open Windows explorer
b) In the left panel, locate Library and right click on it
c) Click “restore default libraries” option
d) Check if the issue persists.
Method 2: Rebuild Index
Windows indexes all files and folder for accessing any files or folder. If the index file is corrupted, it may result in such issue often. So I would suggest you to rebuild the index and check. You can refer these steps:
a) Press Windows key +F, type “index” in the search box
b) Click on the settings tab below the search box and select the “indexing options” tile
c) Check if the drive where you have installed the operating system is listed, if not click on the Modify button below
d) Check the box against the drive and expand it to make sure that the “users” is selected
e) Click OK to close the window
f) In the Indexing options window, click on “Advanced” button and click “rebuild”.

I am running Windows 8 & just spent a considerable amount of time with tech support because all of my windows were freezing & the only way I could get out of it was to do a hard reset. It was determined through remote diagnositics that I had a number of corrupted files which had to be restored.
All is now well except one of the folders (self-created) in My Documents is now totally empty. The files are not in the recycle bin. I tried rebuilding the index but that did not help. Is there any way to restore these files? While I have other self created folders only one was affected.

This thread relates to Libraries, which are not Folders, so has nothing to do with your problem
Your Documents folder is where your files are stored. Your Documents Library points to your Documents folder as well as the Public Documents folder on your computer, and you can add other locations too. A Library contains only locations, not files.
When you do a refresh/reinstall of windows you tend to lose all your files. You should always back it up somewhere first, support should have told you this...
All the files and folders from your old install are usually put in a folder on C: drive named Windows.old. Have a hunt in there - if there is no windows.old folder that means the C: drive was formatted (erased, wiped) before Windows was reinstalled. In that case, it MAY be possible to retrieve them using undelete software (try Recuva from piriform.com, it's free) but chances are slim. So hopefully you have a windows.old folder.
