I have windows 7, and for the past few months I am unable to update windows.
Windows update is stuck at downloading 0kb 0% and after viewing all the similar posts around the web regarding this problem I still cant fix it, even after trying everything (stopping and restarting the service, disabling av and firewall, delete softwaredistribute folder and so on...).
Im desperate, please help.

Using MSConfig instructions I found the Adobe Acrobat Update Service was the only non-Microsoft service that was running so I stopped it and Windows update recovered instantly. I've disabled the service permanently now.
Many thanks

What actually worked for me is :
1.Try Installing updates leaving it at 0kb 0% for some time (not much)
2.When you open the windows start menu you shall notice a "Warning Sign"Right on the Shut Down Option
3.Press it and let it do some updates.
4.Repeat until windows actually start updating normally once again.
This totally worked!!!! Such a simple fix, and it's GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much!
Finally, the described solution for Windows 7 worked !
It took some time, but after three hours it was succesfull.
I had to delete almost 4 GB files in the respective Windows folder.
Thanks once more !
