I have windows 7, and for the past few months I am unable to update windows.
Windows update is stuck at downloading 0kb 0% and after viewing all the similar posts around the web regarding this problem I still cant fix it, even after trying everything (stopping and restarting the service, disabling av and firewall, delete softwaredistribute folder and so on...).
Im desperate, please help.

I followed all of the steps in Method 4 and it solved it for me. I'm running Windows 7 Pro x64.
I had the same problem but I noticed that the hard disc was still flashing (suspiciously). I decided to check the windows update cache (C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download) and noticed that this folder was slowly being added to...
50 minutes later on a T1+ connection Windows had downloaded all 95 updates. It remained on "Downloading 95 updates (0 KB total, 0% complete)" the whole time...

I was experiencing the same problem, but now it is resolved...
I used SpeedPC Pro to repair registry and stuff, restarted the PC. Used 'Fix it' and then checked for updates again and that's it, Done!
