Windows 8 continously loses wifi connection

Hi,

I am about to completely lose my wits with this. We all know Windows 8 is not user friendly by a long shot. In the beginneing I thought it was my brand new way too expensive Asus Zenbook that was the problem. I have this computer:

ASUS ZENBOOK U500VZ 15.6" WQHD+

GeForce GT650 2GB,Core i7-3632QM,8GB RAM,2x256GB SSD,Windows 8

It runs Windows 8.

Since I got it it has had a problem with dropping the wifi connection.

The steps taken to resolve it are:

Change settings in Power Plans

Changed adapter settings under "Power Management"

Run -> ipconfig /flushdns

All other laptops and iPads and iPhones running on the routers are fine. Problems persist on OTHER wifi networks as well, and from searching the web I can see this is a COMMON problem with Windows 8. HOW to fix this? Does Microsoft NOT realise it's customers would like to be able to use the internet without losing connectivity...

    I think the real problema is the hardware.

    So far I have noticed the following:

    I have a Toshiba P875-S7200 that has an Atheros AR8162 WiFi adapter that runs 8.1 without trouble.

    BUT...

    In an Acer Aspire E15 with a QUALCOMM Atheros WiFi adapter the problems occur all the time.

    I suspect the issue is with the WiFi card itself rather than that of software... Said Acer model has a Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter. I purposedly downloaded a reference driver for it, installed a different (but compatible) driver for it and on all three instances the connection dropped all the time. Sometimes it ran stable for a few minutes, but eventually dropped or went into "limited mode" again and again. I did the same with the Toshiba and no problems occured.

    If I tried to change the AR956x driver it "became alive again" for a short period then drop the connection again. Plane mode didn't work at all. Even turning off or disabling the card in device manager did squat.

    Haven't tried using an USB WiFi that DOESN'T use an Atheros chipset yet, but I plan on doing it just to test for faulty hardware CHOICES made by Acer and perhaps some other Laptop assemblers.

    And I call them "assemblers" because as far as I know, DELL, HP, Acer, etc; aside from Apple or IBM; only put together hardware pieces but DO NOT manufacture most of the parts contained in their "products". Has anyone ever seen an HP motherboard, memory module, or hard drive?

    Me neither... But I have seen HP laptops with IBM Hard drives, Samsung Memory modules and LG LCD flatpanels.

    I thought I would share this, hope it helps. I had the same problem, and tried a bunch of combinations and suggestions posted by others. But none worked.

    Finally, setting the band to 5.2GHZ seems to have solved the issue.

    Go to device driver properties -> advanced-> preferred band-> set to 5.2GHZ

    hmm, that's a new one. Tx!

    though I can't find the parameter "prefered band". Line says 20Ghz only...

    Maybe a different devcice...

    I have this problem too. I have other devices, including a Mac, which have absolutely no problem whatsoever.

    This is definitely a Windows 8 bug. What an awful OS this is.
